Daddy's Birthday Wish

She says it to me all the time, "I'm just almost 19,"
As if somehow that simple thing will somehow make her queen.
18 was a dandy year, but now it's nearly gone,
I guess she thinks the next will be the grand phenomenon.

Sacramento, please beware, Christina's stepping out.
I think it's clearly obvious, beyond a single doubt,
She thinks that adding one more year will make her somehow taller.
I think she should be happy though, to not get any smaller.

Well anyway, enough of this, I must get to the point,
I said all that I wrote above to keep her nose in joint.
The point of all these goofy words and what I want to say
Is Tuesday, May the 24th, should be a great birthday.

Happy birthday Smoochiegirl,
Your 19th will soon unfurl.
Only 19th you will get.
What will be its epithet?

Live it wisely, live it strong,
Make it your creation song.
Sing it loud for all to hear,
It's your only 19th year.

Author notes

For my sweet daughter, bless her heart.  Hope the 24th and the rest of the year are super for you.

I read and commented on Torn Chakra and Country Cousin's poems.

Fantastic! What a lucky young lady to be receiving this from her Daddy. It is absolutely beautiful and deserves to be framed in gold. (Thank you for commenting on my poem A Whole New World, it is very much appreciated.)

I did notice in the last stanza you used the word 'is', but I think you meant 'it'.

Okay now I am sitting here in the office crying. "Daddy's Birthday Wish"...I have never in all my life see those words directed towards me. This is truly beautiful. It really hit me in the heart. Thank you for penning this beautiful poem. I know that others might not see the beauty that I see in it through blurry teary eyes, but thats cause they don't understand what it is like to finally have a "dad" write a birthday poem...which just so you know...has been a wish of mine all of my life (well a little differently but this is close enough) so thank you, for fulfilling the one and only thing I want for my birthday s.
    Love You Daddy,
    Christina
