The planes shattered the morning,
and the buildings,
and I thought to myself,
We will build our own world now.
The pinnacles to their own beliefs
plummeted the fifty stories onto themselves,
and I thought to myself,
We will build our own world now.
Well now we are at war, the same kind that was fought
by the ones at Da Nang with their graveyards all for naught
And they think that they're still the only ones who get it
But baby, let me tell you, its quite the opposite.
Oh, We will build our own world now.
Yeah, we're gonna lift ourselves up now.
Their graves don't have to sit as their only silent memories
They will be the foundations of the new stories upon stories
Because no, this isn't about the next big thing, The New Way
this is about waking from the night to stare into the New Day
So they went to die for the Republic,
While the tired lessons of history yawned and said, "yes, again"
and I thought to myself,
We will build our own world now.
We don't have to do it for our fathers,
Or our ingrown sense of Manifest Destiny,
I think we should all be thinking,
We can build our own world now.
