Admiring

Have you seen the interest upon my face
as attention from you is rarely diverted?
Have you noticed that I will follow you any place
and in your stare I become disconcerted?


Do you know that your dreams inspire
and your hopes are my greatest pleasure?
Can't you see that you spark a fire
and give memories for me to treasure?


I can't find the words that might be deflected
to tell about the way you make me feel.
Though I want to ask my heart is protected
and I am too shy to just reveal.

So I watch you from a distance and wait
absorbing all the time with you I can cherish
I can do nothing more than anticipate
the beginning of more or the chance this may perish.


When you're weary and in distress
I see and I am the first to be there.
When everything is going great or a mess
I want to be close enough to share.


Yet, I can't speak my mind and say
that I would like to call you mine
because our friendship might become a thing of yesterday
and asking you to take the jump could cross the line.

So here I am waiting for you to realize
that it is you that makes my heartbeat race
and that your love is the ultimate prize
and would lend a dream I'd never need replace.
