Crushed by sweet caress,
My decapitated mermaid lies on the beach
Once beautiful in life,
Dispelling filth, pollution
From the chemical laden waters
Her semi-transparent fins, silver wings for the sea
Now - sand, rock, dirt
Day, a gruesome spotlight
For last night's slaughter, yet
The scales shone like jewels, displaced
Against the land
Great beauty remains long after death
The wind blows, humming
An endless lullaby
One last respect, I closed her eyes
I kissed her pale face, whispered
'You may rest'
Author notes
I drew a picture, once, of a dead mermaid. She was decapitated. But, I didn't do that on purpose. It was just that -- I couldn't draw her with her head attached. So I drew it detached, and it was beautiful. <3.

i agree with what Aimee has said so far, although at the moment i can't say if it is the most original but it is definitely creative and unique! you clearly have a talent for writing lol if not for drawing mermaids with their head's attached
thanks for entering and good luck
