I Believe in the Power of Love

Dear Heart Broken By Fate,
I am so glad you found the strength to write
trusting I will understand
the will it takes to lift a pen
when crushed by fate's cruel hand.
I too have staggered from such blows
that shatter, wrench and break.
I appreciate your heart's travail and
your fear of repeating past mistakes.

Love truly is a rose with thorns.
Once pricked you're bound to bleed.
Tis easy to become callused and
refuse new hope to seed.

I believe there is good in  everyone
... though in changing quantities.
It ebbs and flows like rain and sun

 ... tides of uncertainties.
The earth may rock, the stars may fall
and moonbeams may be brittle glass.
Perhaps the biggest myth of all
is that love is always meant to last.

After all, you see

things shift and grow ... often not in unison.
Forever lasts only of of the soul.
Mortal life being fallible ...

decaying like autumn's discard leaves.
Love, my friend is impalpable...
apt to scatter on an errant breeze.

Yes love is often lost... but also found.
And I pray dreamers never lose their dreams.
For dreaming elevates lives

far more than it brings us to our knees.
Because in truth, nothing is fixed;

our futures remain a mystery.
Our role is learning how to dance
between life's two great immensities.
So open up,
give love another chance

Without it we aren't whole.

Love is the cosmic journey that purifies our souls.

Yes, Heart Broken By Fate,
you will find inner peace again.
One day you’ll step out of the clouds
and leave grief's freezing rain.
Heed loving messages dreamt in dreams
sent by our dear departed ones.
It's all about believing...
You’ll have your day back in the sun,
because time always eases pain.
True grace is acceptance and release
... sometimes nothing is to blame.

Tears dampen the dying rose....
hold memories both dear and close.
But tap into the power living love will bring.
Give up your ghosts my friend

and walk out into spring.
No promises you'll remain unscathed.
Love holds no guarantees.
But I swear by all that is good and right

only love will set you free.
I believe this with my very being...
and that our lost loves would agree.

Signed,

with the utmost sincerity,
Your friend and fellow poet

Sheri Twila Lowe
(I believe in the power of love)

This is one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read. I believe every word! I have written the same kind of belief but not with the magic that you have here! I love it! I can only give you 3 clappies but if I could I would give you all the stars of heaven. Pam

Everytime that I read this it was very hard to hold the tears back. I choke at every stanza. Just makes it all very hard to swallow. At least it shows within the words you've written here shows much love is put into this. Thank you so much for writing this, even though it was for you friend. At least it should help me just pick myself up off the ground. And... thank you for entering. It was a joy to read such a lovely poem!

    one of the best!

Very touching! I find so many images here that speak in my native tongue! Although I lean toward darker love, I found this so very full of of meaning. Definately a favorite to be visited periodically! Thanks and keep up the good work!!!

With eyes closed and your heart exposed you have written upon this paper the very thinkg that most wait to "see". But, alas, as they struggle to use thier eyes they have forgotten that thier hearts also can "see" and if only to open them up look upon love with these "eye" they would see that love grows from within and not from the outer ralms from which it is encased. I loved this one! Even with pain and sorrow we could still "see" the potential of what love can offer. To believe in the power of Love is also to believe that love has power, which in turn can move anyone to "see" with thier hearts. Awsome work! May I add you to my favorites? I truely hope you say yes. HUGS ~val~

If Ruth hadn't first come up with the concept of responding to a 'Dear Abby'-esque letter, I know I would've done it. I have lately grown so despondent on the part of heartbreak that I firmly believe that I am destined to be alone forever and that true love is something that will always be denied me, no matter what I do. A little over two years ago, I lost the one person who inspired me to believe in this entity called love, that I was valuable and contributed much not only to his life, but to the lives of everyone around me. The breakup took so much from me, including my ability to write for a very long time. Since then, I have not been given any incentive to think that love is real, which is why I've come to the point of denouncing it altogether.

What I adore about this poem is the subtle rhyming, how it doesn't make itself blatantly apparent, but gives the poem a steady beat and flow. I love rhyming (actually, I started writing in rhymes), and this is stupendous! Fabulous job.

Wishing you all the best of luck in the contest...

    Many blessings,

    Raven Aurora

Goodness RuthKephart, I think you did a fabulous job of explaining...it is strange but when I wrote that part about the rose ...I somehow knew you'd like it...in fact that very thought came into my mind..honestly!! My mind said "Ruth will like this" .... one of the strangest things that has happened to me in a while! Anyway, now I digress, thank you so much!

I also believe in the power of love and its healing qualities. You did a good job answering the questions that I posed as the questions asked are perhaps some of the hardest we ever ask. The lines :
Love truly is a rose with thorns.
Once pricked you're bound to bleed.
    Tis easy to become calloused
and not allow new hope to seed.

really stood out to me amoung the others. Yes, we all bleed when we come across love as it leaves us open, unprotected, when we bare our heart to another. Thank you for this entry, judging this contest will not be taken lightly or done easily. I'd also like to thank you for the painting you used with this piece. It brings to mind what I often feel like when writing. Likes someone has cut off my arms and that I have no other choice but to write for them...sorry, I regress, hard to explain
    Ruth

I am always amazed at how diverse your writing talent and style stretch. Each piece a new surprise and each word a flutter for the poet in me. Amazing. I can't seem to find the right words and even if I could I do believe I would discard them as unworthy. If I had a hundred points to give, you'd get them. If I had what you wanted, it'd be yours. You are an empitome of a perfect poet.

This is beautiful beyond words. Such imagery and rhythm. The ryhme combined with style creates an extraordinary flow. I'm glad I gave your piece a click.

    MASTERPIECE

This poem absolutely floored me. I started picking out the parts that I thought were outstanding, like "moonbeams may be brittle glass", and "moonbeams may be brittle glass", but by the time I highlighted everything, I had written your poem back to you. This goes under the description of a Masterpiece. You have made us face the bare facts, that love is worth taking a risk on, but there's no guarentee it will last.
    Fantastic write! ~vj

RuthKephart, thanks again and I just want to apologize for posting and then editing but I am learning just how visual a person I am and when I post and set it all up etc. it is only then that I "see" what direction I want to go. Computers have been a godsend to the likes of my ilk lol. Anyway I thought this whole idea for this contest was refreshing and creative.
