Treading Water

Drink my tears and swallow any pride left to spare
I'm living in a cage; pull me out of this quicksand nightmare
I had no idea what I had had
You had been there for me to settle this lonely nomad
We were friends but I always wanted more
Now whenever I try to look back, my bruised heart feels sore
Your hand pulled me out of the water; I was on my own two feet
Then you pushed me back in; I'm drowning and you've taken a seat
You burned our bridges until we were strangers
Then I woke up with a life of new dangers
Now you don't care about me, you've got a bunch of friends, shiny and new
And beneath the undertow, I look up at your wavy face
And realize, I still love you.

Vivid and emotional! Very poetic! I LOVE the lines "and beneath the undertow I look up at your wavy face and realize I still love you". These words capture the feelings of regret and loss in a friendship perfectly. Great job!! Sheryl

This is good. I like the feel to it. Your flow was a little sloppy but it didn't stop this poem from being awesome. I need to check out more from you.

    Brava

"And beneath the undertow, I look up at your wavy face
And realize, I still love you."
Very powerful last line. With the rest of your words, very well done.
