These are the men we call upon when our country needs a hand
These are the men that will fight proudly for their country and are willing to take that stand
These are the men that are still only children from their family’s lives they are torn apart
These are the men that are sent to fight in foreign lands with fear pounding in their very heart.
These are the men that sleep many sleepless nights watching for shadows listening for sound
These are the many remembering of their soft warm beds as they curl into their sleeping bags upon the hard cold ground
These are the men that walk for miles upon end through the coldest winds or the blistering heat
These are the men that will continue to walk on strong even though they have sores upon their feet.
These are the men when under attack will show absolutely no fear
These are the men that will let their instinct take control forgetting that in a heartbeat the end could soon be near.
These are the men that sadly have to fight on as they watch their friends die before their very eyes
These are the men that must block out all the sounds around them of all the screams and cries.
These are the men that are so willingly ready to lay down their lives so we can live better days
These are the men that we always pray for in many countless ways.
These are the men that continue to fight even though the war is long gone These are the men with chilling memories of those days finding it hard to carry on.
These are the men we call soldiers ready to defend when our country makes the call
These are the men we can put our trust upon and know bravely they will stand tall.
This is a poem for all the soldiers who are still with us and whom have passed
You all are real heroes of today with a legacy that will forever last.

This is amazing. Wonderful write, and it's so true. Too often are soldiers become so cold from war though, it's hard to reach out to them afterwards. Anyways, great write. Thanks for entering. Good luck!

I like it, great content, unique style, and a stange fluidity. Its not the standard short meaningless poem that so many of us write alot of. it is very heartfelt, and well done. good job as always -
Good job. That's all I got to say about that.
-
Bookmarkable and remarkable
Thanks for the sentiment. Let us pray for those many abroad in Iraq, Afghanistan, Phillipines, the Horn of Africa, Korea, and those who serve quietly at home, doing paperwork, keeping the armouries and home bases safe and prepared.
Now how about a poem contest for Marines? Maybe I'll do that when I close my present contest. -
WOW!!!!!!!!! I don't know what else to say except thank you. I understand what you are saying here, My husband is currently in Iraq and this actually made me cry. Great Job.

This is very powerful. Everyone thinks they know what goes on but not many people really do good write. I am PROBABLY the only one to mention this and it is not because I am a feminist not in the least, however, there are women who do that stuff to. But in this poem (and correct me if I am wrong) but you were using the word "men" as a whole .... plural meaning everyone men and women... I dont know anyway good ... no GREAT poem. Keep writing.

you show a great respect and admiration for the soldiers- and you did a wonderfull job by making it about the men and their experiences not a particular war or country. a universal message of thanks to the men (and women) that kep us safe.nice one
-
Wow this is really awesome, so many things we take for granted and don't think about because we are wrapped up in our own lives which we wouldn't have if it weren't for them, this is awesome. Peace Jackie
-
Good job, and a bit more uplifting than the military/war style poems I've written which is a good thing. I need a change of pace once in awhile.
-

VERY STIRRING STUFF! very reminscent of tennysons 'charge of light brigade, or even some rudyard kipling, you managed to be poetic but also give view to a subject a lot of us forget in thse pc times, if it wasnt for 'soldiers' of now or in ww2 we would have no freedoms, we maybe wouldnt even be alive. As un pc as it sounds war is sometimes nessecary, like fighting hitler was, and men die for our right to be free, they arnt politians and dont start wars just there to sort the mess out and should always be given respect they deserve. well done a good write

Interesting, patriotic and a good dedication to the troops. However, there are a lot of spelling errors and the grammar (esp with the apostrophes) needs to be sorted out
Keep writing and thanks for entering
All the best,

give them the boot
Now thats what i call an all american some one who goes out and puts a boot in the rest of the worlds ass...but you did neglect the brave of our country...what about them those few who have left their children behind to also valiently fight upon deaths front lines.... -
Thanks so very much for posting something with such content - and this really is "shameless"! You have done such a fantastic job and really touched my own heart as well as others I am sure - your words are beautiful....we owe so much to them all...they often pay the ultimate price....when I am feeling low or sorry for myself I think of them.....amazing what a little perspective can do....thanks so much for sharing this!

Lovely Tribute
Truely a lovely tribute
You do a great job in depicting some of the sacrifices these people make...
War is a horrible thing, but someone has to be willing to fight when the need arises. Thanks so much 4 sharing and kudos on this write
-
This is awesome, soldiers give up so much. The men and women fight everyday for our country so we can have freedom. They don't get nearly enough credit for the job they do.
-
This is a nice tribute to a group of people who definitely deserve one. Your heart is in the right place.
There were a lot of grammar and spelling errors, though. CookieZeal pointed out a couple of them, but I'll tell you a few more: you say "These are the men that..." a lot. It should be "These are the men who..." When you are referring to multiple people you use "who", one person is "whom", and objects are "that".
The following words do not need appostrophies: needs (first stanza), nights (second stanza), winds (second stanza).
Also, the lines are very long. This would be a lot easier to read if the lines were cut in half (at least).
I hope I've helped. This is sweet. If you have any questions you can IM me.

great tribute
It is so good to see a poem that is a tribute to the men keeping us safe and free. Thank you. I think this is a powerful poem. I would love to hear you present it. (Pls fix the little errors) Keep writing. Writing is life!-joanne -
we need more people writing poems like this about our soldiers. they're out there baring conditions we can't even imagine and there are american's selfish enough to disrespect these men and women. i have a friend in iraq who i, more than anything, hope realizes that there are people like me and you who do support what they do for us and this country. this poem is fabulous, it really is.
-
I have great respect for the young men that go out and fight the wars of this world. I think this is a beautiful and fitting tribute to the living and the dead. War is a difficult subject to talk about, but a necessary one. If you fo return the favour please read my poem, My land, it seems to be similar. Just from the other perspective. Well written
-
BRILLIANT
i dont condone war either, but i support the troops just as much as anyone else!! fantastic!! i loved it,
-
First I would like to let Quetzalcoat know that just because I do not condone the war , does not mean that I do not support our troops. I think of them daily . This write is a wonderful tribute to every soldier that ever donned a uniform ( during peace or war) and the perfect ending for me would be" These are the man and women that I wish were all back home and out of harm's way)

First of all thank you for writing about that which many of us should. It's nice to see someone giving these soldiers something back. As for the write itself...These before each line gets rather old...as well as makes one anticipate seeing "these" men.."these" might work if you added pictures of soldiers here and there through the write...the form could use some work, different line breaks would help add to this piece, as well as proper punctuation. Too many words can take away from the write, I'd suggest taking out some of the words that don't seem to add to it as a whole, if it's not important...get rid of it.....thin this out a bit, add a bit more detail, a bit more descriptive and this piece could be a rather intense dedication worthy of these soldiers, and would even shed a few tears.
-
Well, I'm glad there's someone out there who appreciates these men and women. Far too many people protest the war and in doing so attack our soldiers who are doing a great service to us. It seems terrible that while they fight and die for us, so many at home not only don't appreciate it, they verbally attack them for their great troubles. Great write, keep up the support that there is never enough of!
-
This is a great tribute to our hero's you have talent keep up the great work! QueenT
-
Being the wife of a Viet Nam war veteran, I'm very respectful of this wonderful dedication. It opens our eyes to its truths and helps us get into the soldier's belt. Too bad we don't hear more about what goes on in the soldier's life.
I'm going to feature this one on the Showboard under Featured. I pray you get many comments.
A critical review is invited(typos, form, content, etc)
~~around them of all the scream’s and cry’s.<-- both words underlined are plurals, not possessive, so in this case it would be screams and cries
This is a poem for all the soldiers who are still with us and whom have past<-- this word's use is a verb, rather than a noun, making the spelling passed.
IM me regarding the form
