A Tragic Waste of Life

… But how a 19-year-old girl
could be allowed to die because her family refused
a life-saving blood transfusion is just
something I will never understand …

… He could not see any future ahead of him –
so he took the only way that he knew…
the seige man, who barricaded himself against the world
before taking his own life …

… When the front wheel touched back onto the road
it was not quite straight and he and his bike
were catapulted onto one of the sandstone cuttings.
He was killed instantly …

…You know, it was an accident
but to me they should not even be there.
Royal Military Police are investigating
the circumstances of the "tragic accident"
and stressed that it did not involve enemy fire…

…Any time you walk in and see a bloody scene
where someone has died and an officer is down,
it's a sobering realization
that what we do for a living is dangerous …

…He was stabbed and killed on Saturday night.
This is beyond tragic and puts all else
into perspective …

…185 persons die, 175 the first day  -
I saw about this on the news …

…He was every mother's dream
and now we've lost him…

…which serves to underline the chaotic
and dangerous lifestyles which many
of the victims have had …

…what kind of life does one lead where
so much emotion is spent on
such irrational hate…

…the tragic waste of life through
failure to realize the value of every moment.

Your poem just jumps into everything and it tends to sweep you away with it all. The unique way you've chose to portray this all was intriguing, by taking different clips and compiling them into a whole is a gift. Its not easy to write a poem using various situations but you've done it wonerfully. The entire poem was heart wrenching and is so diverse that many people can relate to it all. Great job!

i like this because it was to the point. usually i enjoy a tongue twister or thought teaser but the bluntness just vividized the point that death is constant. it is tragic but it has become so everyday. It is nothing new. good write

I read this three times. What a strong statement you make.It was just long enough! But if you had wanted, the daily, needless tradgies could take up pages.Cherish every precious moment of life.Find beauty in every breath! You did I great job. This is the best write I've read today.I'm out of applauses, but I am using my points and giving you one as you deserve it. Linda

Photo-montage. Not a poem in the traditional sense but a sort of flicking of images. It does its job well. It finds a decent place to stand in all the mess, without telling us what to think.

Interesting thoughts, but I feel this needs to be rewritten a bit before you are able to optimally express everything going on in here. The presentation, I feel, seems a little clumsy. But with hard work and lots of effort, you can make it work.
