The Walk

As the stillness grows,
the air comes to a whisper stop.
The forest is listening,
and all manner of living things pause.
There is one moving through the woods
that knows them all by name.
Reverently they admire his gentle gait
as he passes on his way.
The creatures in the soil
relish the sound of his feet.
Even the sweet scent in the air,
reaches to cling to him.
As he makes his way through the forest,
the mosses reach up,
to touch his sandaled feet.
Flowers turn their colors to him,
hoping to receive a simple glance
from the serenity of his eyes.
He disappoints none as he moves,
acknowledging each for their role.
The trees have a mind to him
and hold back the blistering sun.
Yet even the sun longs to shine on him.

As he steps from the woods onto the path,
children throw small rocks at him,
for their minds are busy, and they do not know.
He smiles and greets each new stone,
as a long lost friend.

  • I am not surprised this is a popular piece on AP. It was for me like dipping in a wellspring of words. I love woodlands - the peace and escapist paths from modernity which they offer. The closing provided my favourites lines - how he greeted each stone as a long lost friend. A beautiful image of a how one might've handled a less desirable situation.

Our dear sister, maa, directed me to this wonderful poem, and I'm just delighted that she did. This poem is so lovely and lyrical, and penned with great poise and grace. Thanks for sharing this treasure.

    dear presence,
maybe my experience had to mature a bit before I could fully integrate the profound wisdom your verse reveals ... its perfume has enchanted me "at first smell", two years ago, but was I ready yet to dissolve myself and become one with it ?
a few days back, I hosted a contest inspired by a quote that said :
"in the profound poverty of being nothing,
    every something is a present."
and somehow I was seeking for the "perfect poem" that would express what I felt was the deepest truth ... so I was re-guided to your page and resmelled the perfume of this verse ...
instantly, I felt that the moment had come ...
and that I could let go of my fear of being nothing ...
and when I took a silent walk through the forest, I met a lady I knew ... she realized I was not speaking ... with an outburst of laughter, she said : "great, finally you are giving us a break from your endless chatter !"
with a smile, my hands folded, I sincerely thanked her from my heart for her guidance, and suddenly I realized that the hard rocks of her harsh words were flying right through me ...

heartfelt blessings to you, my most precious friend,

    maa

    Beautiful

Your gentle words, spin the magic of the Great Spirit, through the eyes of the mortal, seeing what the Master sees. He walks amongest us everyday and touches our souls. Some listen, others turn away. This is my favorite as well. Walk well Brother and many blessings to you.

I enjoyed the imagery and calmness here, Presence. One who is truly calm is not perturbed by anything; this is a state that I cannot maintain for long. You give us an attractive picture of the goal.

This gentle walk of love is spectacular. The decriptions are welcoming, and speak of the beauty of being one with nature. The Master walks his path through the world, his shining essence drawing all toward the light. He acknowledges and respects all, even those who don't see him for who he is. He honors all, and sees all as pieces of Himself that have been lost.
The children with their busy minds cast stones at Him, and He immediately realizes that they are innocent, being just children, and thinking as a child, how else could He see them but innocent.
This piece is amazing in its symbols. I am honored to have been able to read this and contemplate its beautiful message.

Dear, dear, dearest Presence... I don't think I've ever been so enchanted. It was as though I had departed from myself and began to follow the mysterious creature in great reverence. How you've captured the essence of divinity and spiritual enlightenment in this piece! I could picture Kahlil Gibran being that entity walking through that forest. What words are there for me to give or to offer? I think I'll take a walk outside right now, and gaze at the moon and the stars. You move me greatly.

"He smiles and greets each new stone, as a long lost friend." And thereby forgiveness is shone throughout the world. Presence, you are beginning to Shine yourself. Is it just me or is your work getting that much deeper and significant with each new entry here on AP? A masterpiece, plain and simple.
    peace

    Divine

    Dear Poet,
I wish I could shower you with all the shining cups, (with all
the clappy little men ) and with all the rose buds blooming at AP, for this extraodinary Masterpiece.
In my eyes you truly are the RUMI of the new age.

This poem takes me gently by the hand, leading me into the shining inner realm of your Divine devotion. The picturesque
gimpse into nature, becoming so real for me, in this garden within me, where I look to see His shining face again.

This is true love. Thank you Presence, for honouring us again.
    Blessings, Tara ji

A spellbinding write with soft glowing descriptions that brings to life the image of an exceptional being. One with Nature, loving life equally in all its forms, he is obviously a man who walks in higher realms as well as through earthly woodlands. Jesus? St. Francis? Or perhaps a homeless wanderer who knows the secrets of universe. It matters not who he is, for it is the essence of his Consciousness that you have revealed with your gentle words, Poet. Serene, reverent, observant, appreciative, nonjudgmental and forgiving, he is an archetype of the spirit of humanity at its highest and best.

This poem has stolen my heart; it has to be your best yet, dear Presence! Tomorrow, when walking in the woods, Silentium will search for a place where "the air comes to a whisper stop" and pause there, listening with calm attention. Perhaps soft footsteps will pass nearby .....
