What Is God?

What Is God?

God is different to all people.
There are different names for him.
Some just call him their higher power.

To me, he is a supreme Entity.
This is neither a male nor a female.
Yet it is both, in one sense and in the other.

God has the love, compassion and understanding
of a mother to her child.
God shows the strength, power and wisdom
of a father to his child.

That is why to a lot of us, we give honor and blessing to both
a God and A Goddess.
I do not think that makes us EVIL in any way.

For a lot of us, it is harder for us to be strong.
For we can not wish harm to anyone;
Even thought they may call us evil
to do so would bring it back on ourselves.

We can not do harm to anyone,
not physically or Spiritually;
for to do so would result
in us suffering three to seven time
the harm we did in the first place.

In addition, most of us must live by truth,
no matter what may be said or done to us.
Therefore I ask you, does this make us EVIL?

What happened to do not judge less yea be judged.
Let he among you who is sinless cast the first stone.
At least, I believe this way.

I am a Druid of the Patrick Clan.
Yes, I believe that Jesus lived and died.
Too bad that people can not live by
the things he taught when he lived on this Earth !!!!
What a grand world this would be.

So it is said:
So let it be done:

    Hi Rose, great poem!

I found a typo that I wanted to bring to your attention

"Even thought they may call us evil" I believe you meant
[though] instead of "thought". However I think
If you changed 'thought' to [although], and removed "even"
    too you'd be clearer, ciao.

Hey, I think you have a good message here. I will go back for you and do a little touch-up here and there for your critics. Don't worry about the nay-sayers. They read pieces like this to get a rise out of the writer, nothing more. If they really had an opinion or thought worth listening to they wouldn't post a blanket statement like "God is dead" or "God is an imaginary friend for adults" I would rather be wrong in my belief of God than not believe and be wrong, wouldn't you?

I understand this one quite fully, my friend I think you did a great job conveying your message here. As for the spelling errors, mentioned above, they are trivial. We all make them and we are adults and it's quite clear what was meant to be said. I think it's a great piece, putting out a clear and wise message. Perhaps you should do a column on it as well. Some may say it's controversial, however, why should it be??? This is a poetry site, not a religious debate, we all have our views and our beliefs (or disbeliefs) the poetry and it's effectiveness to relate to the reader is what is important. I find it highly relatable and quite full of wisdom. From the heart to boot. Beautifully done hun. Hugs, Gypsy

I agree with an earlier comment, that this would have been better off as a column...it's more opinionated that informative however, but still...the poem-ish feel doesn't exactly come off of this...lol...erm...I'm a Hindu and I am being brought up to believe in a God, whether it's our God or your God...but I think I agree with the scientists...that God is and was someone to turn to for help when you couldn't explain natural occurances...

ancient people invented religion to help explain what they couldn't...hence there are wind gods, water gods, harvest gods, sun gods, moon gods, main gods...etc...my own culture and religion has all of this...I believe that evolution is a distinct part of "God" whoever It or He or She might be, though I'm not sure what your take on evolution is

For Hindus, we believe in reincarnation, or "avatars", new births or past births of your present self. Our main God, Vishnu, has 10 avatars, beginning with the fish, and progressing to tortoise, boar, half-man/half-lion, a dwarf, etc. etc...the 10th avatar is yet to come, but the point is, we clearly believe in evolution...our main God progresses that way...

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I believe in a reason for everything and a progressiveness in life...a pattern...and if that pattern and reason is God, then so be it...I have no problems whatsoever. I suppose we all need a reason for things to happen...why some die, why some live, why we were all handed out our own fates...and I guess God is the answer to all our questions. Thank you for this write though, as you can see, it really made me think I might write my own column about my views on God that's a good idea... much love Amritha

This one is...okay. You need to proofread it, grammatical errors and spelling mistakes but overall its a good piece showing your opinion. Keep it up.

I thought this would be better as a column than as a poem. I took theological studies (both Christian and Jewish) for almost all of my adult life. I think most "spirituality" today is asinine and superficial and lacks any sense of permanency. Most people are simply satisfied with cafeteria spirtuality. I guess that is fine if you are just wanting to have fun. But if you are trying to decipher the meaning of life, it is a dead end.

    awesome

Geez god isnt dead or you dont have to believe in god only if your superstitious either. Its a matter of your life really..your soul. I think no matter what someone believes we have souls and their is a higher power..we arent capable to live without assistance in any way. those of you who suffer may think god is not around..but the thing is god is only helping you as much as you are letting 'em..God could be whatever you make it its your security blanket and if god does exist then god is helping us and he probally wont judge us on our lack of religion or how often we pray.. the higher power..whatever it may be made us and if it wasnt taking care of us we would be in worse shape as a whole. we have souls..you find happiness when your souls are happy and that is when they are let loose..set free from the structure of this world. It brings you peace when YOU (your soul is you) isnt confind to your body and you obtain that by spiritual things..almost no matter what they are..and that also depends on what you want your soul to experience light or dark..
thanks for sharing your poem it was very insightful and helped me write a comment but it was mostly for the commentors up there.

Might want to go back through and check grammar as well as spelling I noticed many mistakes here. The message you are trying to discuss here is rather controversial, sadly I do not think you really conveyed what you were attempting.

To quote Morgan Freeman,"God is an imaginary friend for grown ups." Might as well be a ghost. To believe in God, you must be superstitious. Although not all superstitious peopl believe in God.
