Hardwood, Flower, and Moon ( a Riddle)

Many workers with no backbones
Went to work looking like drones.
Two bossy birds, one called "Eater,"
The other a guide, some called "Leader,"
Had a knack of getting in their way--
Eating them for sport, survival, play.
Also, a hardwood, melon, flower, moon,
Social creatures-- onomatopoeia tune.
Earthy elixir, nickname of lovers;
One who swarms, stings, and hovers.

    Alrighty, that I can do... Just noticed that you have this as a column and not a poem... did you mean that or no? Thought I'd point it out...

    Hey Uba, good to hear from you again. Why i thought you became a gypsy and joined The Cosmic Carnival, or a South American Country and Western Band, or something? Glad you are still state side, though. Your answer that you i.m.'d me is close, but give me a type of this. Best Regards, and ttys, Avi

    Alrighty, I do believe I am back in action. Whew, this month has been a disaster. But, hopefully, it'll continue to stay at the semi-bearable level of insanity it's currently at, and not drop back down to where it was. Alrighty, enough of my griping, onto what I should be doing, i.e. praising yet another WONDERFUL piece of work! Great job with this one, I think I know what it is! Lots of luck,

    -x-Uba-x-
