Because I Never Knew

You cry because you knew him
and asked me why I cry too...

There is no response
that could ever exit my lips
to please your mourning heart
that cries out
with the death of this young man.
So how do I respond
to such an unwelcome question?
I merely lift my head
from its respectful bow
only to say
‘Because I never
got the chance to.’

This goes out to all who know someone who has been killed by a drunk driver. This wonderful young man was. He was coming back on his bike with two people when a drunk driver was speeding at 70 miles an hour and blew a stop sign, hit him, and killed him instantly. And for all you who have driven drunk... this is for you to realize what a stupid thing it is to do. You are not only endangering yourself, but your stupidity is killing people who never deserve any bad to come to their lives. Think about it. Think about the persons family and friends. Just think.
