Rationalize away
The fear.
Pretend it's O.K.,
When others are near.
It's always your fault,
So take the blame.
He's not wrong,
You're just insane.
If you could only
Do something right,
Life would be good,
There would be no fight.
Take what he gives you
Quietly.
Don't wake the children...
Don't let them see.
He's husband and father.
You need him to live.
Who cares if you have
Nothing left to give?
Why does it matter
Anyway?
Your family needs you.
That's the price you pay...

Thank you for your encouragement. Im always amazed to realize just how prominent abusive situations are in our society. My heart goes out to you for ever having to have faced something similiar to my poem.

Wow if that just didn't bring back some gruesome memories of home life a few years ago when my dad lived with us. . . You did an excellent job displaying the rational many abused wives have and generally many abusers have toward their abusee's. Job well done. .. keep on writing! ~CD
