"Rising Streets"

"Rising Streets"
While the city sleeps, the streets they creep.
Under cover of the dark, in the alley, in the park.
They do what they do just to survive,
Steal and deal just to stay alive.
There's a street hustler and a couple of bums,
And out of the doorway a bag lady comes.
Street urchins, winos, and the hopeless cases,
They live and gather in the filthiest places.

Oh, the times are ripe for changin'
       Social system needs rearrangin'
The huddled masses tired of just getting by,
The fools and the losers are becoming wise.
Watch out now cause the streets are gonna rise!

Deemed sick and demented, they're kicked to the curbs,
Ignored by the wealthy who live in the burbs
They shake and they hide and push carts of junk.
Cardboard boxes and doorways used for a bunk.
Talking to themselves just carrying on,
Puzzled looks, blank stares, are their minds really gone?
Or are they just acting and putting us on?

Oh, the streets are set for changin'
       Social system needs rearrangin'
The gathered masses no longer getting by,
The fools and losers noe getting wise
Watch out now, the streets are gonna rise!

Tired but not beaten, sick of despair,
City's heating up, REVOLUTION in the air.
They're gathering in buildings up North and to the South.
The plan is being passed by word of mouth.
They rattle the cages, social battle it rages.
No longer can they be kept down.
       They're storming your city.
       They're taking over your town.

Man, the streets are prime for changin'
       Eco-system needs rearrangin'
The struggling masses no longer getting by,
The fools and losers are now puzzling the wise.
Can't you see man? The streets, they will rise!

Why so bewildered and why so surprised?
Couldn't you see that look in their eyes?
Spit on and put down and kicked in the side.
Did you think they'd roll-over, did you think they would die?
Sometimes people can only take so freakin' much,
The people you walke by who seemed out of touch.
It's been said, "The last shall be first,
And the first shall be last"
Finally that old saying has now come to pass.

       No organization, no rationalization
Chaos is the order of the day.
The street people have voices with something to say.
So you better pay attention, to their words you take heed,
If you don't they'll take over and these streets they will bleed.
Next time you see that dirty bum hold out his hand,
Imagine yourself in his position, while he makes his stand.

Author notes

I wrote this in such a way as it could be a song with a chorus and verse or just a rambling poem about lower economic folks taking a revolutionary stance. Maybe a punk rock song!

    Brilliant

There's a distinct beat in this and I think it sounds unreal. As for the words, it reminds me of my opinion of the Australian Government and society. Homelessness and the way that people view it and look at it really piss me off. There's so much about poverty and the way that it is overlooked by so many that pisses me off a lot.
Unreal way to express your opinion

Very creative piece!! I read this aloud to your brother he wasnt surprised that you wrote this. He said that he was happy that I introduced you to this site, for that matter I am too. As for your authors comments I would have to agree I could hear a distant beat! powerful! Bravo

Yeah I could hear the song in this because the rhyming was fluent and very flowing. I loved the way you described this in such a real way. I do agree that chaos is the order of the day. I loved the imagery you used in this because I could actually see what you were describing. The city and the slums.
