Kiss the Son

Missing image
What is a holy kiss,
pure and without sin or taint of sin,
an embrace of highest magnitude
given in unselfish love?

Today my Lord whispers to me
to come to Him and be with Him
and love Him
forever.

Who has ever heard of
such an invitation of immense proportions?
Such an incredible idea?
Such a pure desire?

To offer a holy kiss
to my Savior,
without sin,
without lust,
without unholy desire?

There will come a time
when this body is dust
and my thoughts are unremembered
and even my poetry and rhyme
will fade like Lothlorien
and be no more.

Then my Lord and Savior will say to me,
“Come, my child, and sit awhile with Me
and see the grandeur that is
set before us here
in eternity.
Come my child.”

I will run to Him
and embrace Him
and  I will
Kiss the Son.

Okay...I'm not a Christian and a little against it so this was hard to read, but nevertheless it was beautiful and contained what I wanted. It's not my place to tell you what to believe either so I will not, just say you wrote this very well and thank you for entering it. Keep writing, by the way lol!

I love the deep spiritual meaning within this... How everything is nothing in the afterlife and how sometimes we question the acts of simple things, especially how love and lust are so close together. also sad thought of the fact that even your poetry will be forgot. Tis true, unless you are one of the greats your poetry will not be recited for years and years to come, the sad thing about life. That is why I vow to make an impression on the world, do something that will make the world remember me. Something good, something different, something beautiful.

The previous history of a poem has no bearing to its outcome in a contest with Winkling judges I select. I think those in the know realize that our judging is quite rigorous. Multiple judges have scores weighted properly and not in simple numberings.
Having said this, I congratulate you on your well-earned bronze trophy. Parts of your poem showed erudition. Perhaps the phrase "without lust" seemed inappropriate to two judges. Thank you for placing this fine poem in this contest. winkie, the Genie in the bottle.

Wow! that's pretty much all I can think to say. This poem was awesome. I loved the part that went

    "There will come a time
    when this body is dust
    and my thoughts are unremembered
and even my poetry and rhyme
    will fade like Lothlorien
    and be no more."

It really puts things into perspective. I'm glad that you entered this contest. Best of luck in placing.

    Exquisite Love

This reminds me of an older poem of mine, wherein I talk about wanting to touch our Lord's face. Once again, Sis, you have penned such beauty here, such peace and serenity; and, your love for God and His Christ is reflected in abundance. I can't wait to "run into Christ's arms" and kiss His face and sit at His feet in rapt attention to every word He will speak. Simply exquisite!

Lots of love and hugs, SisB♥n

Oh...the reality of God's love shines through in this poem. That you can put into words what spiritually feels like is a talent that has no bounds. The joy of your upcoming meeting:

    I will run to Him
    and embrace Him
    and I will
    Kiss the Son.

    Lovely! Peace be with you.

Upon deciding the people going on to the next round, I decided to come back and take a second look at your poem, and I'm glad I did.

I have to admit that the first time I read through your poem, it was very difficult for me to get past the religious content of it. I have... issues... with a lot of the religious poems and poets on this site, and it causes me often to dismiss them outright. I apologize for this, because I have reread your poem, and while the content still isn't my favourite subject, I think it was a very well written poem. You use very nice imagery, and there is a kind of simple elegance about it that is appealing. You don't feel the need to use overly complicated language or too much symbolism, but let it speak for itself.

I think your fifth stanza was definitely the nicest one. I like the quiet self-reflection that I see in it, and the "fade like Lothlorien" line was very nice, especially to a Tolkien fan such as myself.

Congratulations on moving on to the next round.

While religiously, I would most often not be inclined to find interest in this piece, I cannot ignore the fact that you have some truly wonderful lines in this poem.

I myself, am an athiest and have no plans of changing scope, but I do think it is a grand thing when someone like me can read a poem of this type of spiritual scope and still come away with something.

Thanks for entering and good luck.

I love this poem. I really do. You've written about matters so deep and so great they are almost unimaginable.
    "Who has ever heard of
such an invitation of immense proportions?"
That was my favorite part, where you drive in magnitude of the gift we are given by God, a gift which we don't even come close to deserving yet He gives it to us with open arms.

Oh yeah, and being an obsessed Lord of the Rings fan, I have to congratulate you for "will fade like Lothlorien" Two thumbs up on that one!

Oh this was so nice. I felt moved in my spirit as I read it. It was great how you stayed on the same theme throughout the poem and asked certain questions that allowed the mind to engage more. This is brilliant.

Oh, Joanne, this is a glorious tribute to our dear Lord and Saviour. I hardly can wait for Him to call my name and I can go running into His loving arms and give Him a holy kiss, too! These days are so exciting, because we know He stands at the door about to come through and take us up to His Father's glorious throne. Awesome!
