Let’s soar beyond ground limits, spread sure spore
of present joys till Death discards all we
could - would attain unchained. Life’s mystery, -
what lingers when Time fingers ? No encore
we soujourners transmit, on Earth no more
than memories ourselves - sighs swirling seas,
whirl winds twirling whisper on the breeze,
wishful thinking teardrops, summer pour.
Still, rarely still, soul seeks sense, reason for
its perch, its search, puts questions, answers sees.
Behind veiled door is there some secret key
unlocking life’s chromatic scale, some score
whose unique sense decoded, finally
frees life's myrhh music, stirring symphony.

Just recently embarking on the writing of sonnets
there is much more to the technique of their writing than I have yet to understanding but as far as profound depth and imagery this poem draws the reader into it's message and once discovered they can come away with it's valuable lessons meaning. Brilliant Penning

The searching tone,
inspiring;
the concept of discarding,
warning;
the secret key,
the answer.
Though gently spoken,
a pressing reminder
of the importance
of the moment.
Exceptional!

A great little write, I'm sure I don't need to mention the famous poem that of which this reminds me. Very well done, as usual. -
wonderful write! i enjoyed reading it!

I'd say this should be more under theosophy, not philosophy.
The rhyme wasn't too bad. Some of the syllables, however, made some of the rhymes a little touch and go. -
beautiful write.

sighs which the seas
and wind whirl round, a whisper on the breeze,
Really enjoyed this poem, very nice feel to the words as you read it! Great work! -
I loved how you rhymed "little store" with "on earth no more" I also enjoyed the last line "Of life’s sweet music, inmost harmony !" mainly because i truly love music of al sorts ^.^
-
Wonderful. I love how you turned life into music. It is sweet harmony at times but can be so bitter as well. Thank you for sharing this poem with us it was really good.

thank you for guiding my attention to this most wonderful sonnet ... it's no coincidence, since only yesterday, I wrote a sonnet about the eternal subject of "the quest" - in my usual dry and disenchanting manner ... haven't posted it yet, but if I do, I'll let you know ...

maybe it's just my way of perceiving it, but I feel more feminine energy flowing through your verse, recently ... motherly sooting ...

This is such a beautiful poem. You have depicted in your imagery and wording a piece that your readers can get lost in and both enjoy and carry with them long after reading it. Great job with this one and keep writing beautiful pieces such as this one! Nicely done!

I came here from Margaret's sonnet and I am thankful she added this link. What an amazing and insightful piece you have here. I have a young love affair with sonnets and you have put in to play here many aspects I struggle with. I have bookmarked and will be back to look at your craftsmanship as well as the message itself.
Very enjoyable read on many levels.

You have written a perfectly stunning and thought provoking sonnet! A beauty. I truly believe what we give is our own reward and all we do becomes a part of us. Truths to ponder. Again, I enjoyed this sonnet immensely.
(Margaret said it all and in her usual smooth and lovely form)

*'Eternal mystery, -
what, afterwards, will linger ? Little store
can we hope to transmit, on Earth no more
than memories ourselves -'
I shall reiterate my Friend MG's comments in much less poetic form...The only thing we can take with us when we go...& the only thing we may leave behind...is LOVE...There is brilliance on this page, my Friends...Bravo, Jonathan...Brava, MargaretG!!!

Eternal questions most of us will ask -
the answers each new questioner must find
in sounding out the depths within his mind;
there is no guidebook to this inner task.
For each of us must pierce the plaguing mask
the world presents and presently unwind
the tapes, pull back the velvet drapes that blind
our eyes, and let the wine flow from the cask.
We see that life is short yet full of life,
it gives the meaning short duration seeks,
unique and precious prizes for the brave.
What reason more for seeking love, not strife,
for generosity with days and weeks -
the love we give away is love we save.
