(for Gail)
I said
so long --
you said
good-bye --
I said: don't say
good-bye because
my Dad says it
is so final
You say So long -- I say
So long -- then we hang up
our phone receivers - cut --
our communication.
My hazel eyes burn with salt tears -
Soul sister, soul brother -- fears shared.
As our soul's see us draw last breaths --
Two inner souls finally meet.
We cried yesterday, today we will smile --
As friends we journeyed, felt each others pain:
We learn of others -- a group each belongs -
Yet today we join -- cosmic blood brothers.
Author notes
This is a poem written in imabics: first stanza: monometer iambics, second stanza: dimeter iambics, third stanza: trimeter iambics, fourth stanza: tetramater iambics and fifth stanza: pentameter iambics.
It is also a very personal piece for a friend of mine who has been supporting me during my chronic illness for the past nine years and now is dealing with her own health issues as I become her sounding board during this period in her life.
