And a son shall leave his mother
and live with his wife.
and let no one separate the two married people.
Why did God create this thing we call marriage
which drives us insane while at the same time
driving us to be sane?
What would we do without our husbands to protect us,
love us, provoke us to be better than we are,
and to hold us securely and softly in the deepest
parts of the night?
What would our husbands do without us to remind
them of their responsibilities and to care for their fragile
spirits, and to protect their backs as they war for our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?
Dear Sweet Jesus, I thank You for my husband.
I thank You for allowing me to be his wife.
I thank You for all the hard times and the easy times,
for the hectic times and the peaceful times,
for the ugly times and the beautiful times.
Forgive me for not understanding Your purposes in
my marriage.
Forgive me for doubting Your plan and for only looking
at today's failures.
Increase my faith in You
and in my husband
and in my marriage.
You are so good all the time and this thing called marriage is
from Your heart.
So the two shall be as one.
It's so beautiful and so supernatural.
To be alone is not good.
Increase my faith, my God.
and forgive my doubts and insecurities.
Bless my husband mightily.
Bless all marriages today and forever.
In Your precious Name I pray!
AMEN

Beautiful. One of the hardest things to learn is to study to be quiet. Not to complain and murmer, but take all things to God. I have found though that the more you make a habit of doing things God's way, the more He will work it out for you. Marriage is what it is. It is beautiful if the two are in love with the Lord first, and then each other. There are things I see now, that I could not before God removed my veil of darkness. For instance, all the times I felt trapped, was a trap of the devil. All the times I meditated on what was wrong, the devil was keeping me from seeing what was right. All the times I said we have nothing in common, not realizing God intended it that way. For the husbands strengths are her weakness, and her strengths are his. We must be different to be whole, to be a complete set. Thanks for sharing. Trina

This is a beautiful statement about marriage, as well as a powerful prayer. I will be married to my husband for 23 years come this August.
The part that rings most true for me personally is:
"What would we do without our husbands to protect us,
love us, provoke us to be better than we are,
and to hold us securely and softly in the deepest
parts of the night?"

This is so very beautiful, so well written, so very lovely. I just love how you put everything together with this marriage in God's eyes. Great work on this poem. An absolute treasure.

Oh, I don't want to comment anything because it seems like I would be detracting from the... poem? prayer? It seems even more than that... an expression of so much that can't really be put into words, though you did a good job communicating it. Wow! I can't elaborate... I can't criticize. I can only say, as God said in the beginning: "It is good."
Thanks for this... thanks so much.

hmm, what can I say? Not being religious I almost stopped reading, as I find most religious poems to be some way of forcing faith down the readers throat. I was glad I didn't, though, this really was beautiful. I liked the last two lines in the second stanza, very true :-) over all, a great piece, I can't find one fault with it!

Perfect
This is a prayer that could be prayed on a regular basis. You captured so many similar feelings that I go through as well. Thank God He put us with our mates. I really got the better end of the deal...he's had to grow me up a lot, lol.
Precious prayer that was penned beautifully. The Lord Bless you and all that you put your hand to do~vj

It started out as a column of sorts, but quickly turned into praise and thanksgiving..A very beautiful prayer to our Lord. Thank you so much for entering the contest.

I think this is a very beutiful poem/prayer. I hope that, regardless of my sexual orientation--that I can find someone I love as much as you love the one this marriage is to. I can feel the passion and love--as well as some anxiety in the poem. It's a big step--all the more reason to ask for guidence and strength, as well as to giev thanks.

very personal
Got some nice line breaks in there, especially putting "to be alone is not good" alone. Meself, I'd keep working on the rhythm. -
Thank you so much for commenting. I truly appreciate it. I didn't mean to offend anyone. Peace!

Greatest gift to me was my wife & our children. Love your sentiment and your prayer.

What an absolutely beautiful marriage prayer. One that should be posted in every home around the world. Perhaps the divorice rates would dramatically decrease! best wishes

I must apologize for clicking- it was an accident- but since I'm here, I don't want to waste your points- so I'll comment the best I can.
The form is good and the rhythm is consistent through-out the piece. I had a hard time with the content (that's why I apologized before hand)... but the lay out of the poem is well done.

This is beautiful. I really enjoyed reading this and I join you in this prayer. You have written this so poeticly that there are parts of it that could be used for wedding invitations. Very nice job. God Bless, Penny
