The Tapper

THE TAPPER.

I tapped me Ma for a few bob
She tutted back,
“You’ve got me robbed.”
Pay me on Monday
Said she with a sigh,
Who owns this tenner?
You or I?”
When Monday came
I cashed my dole
Nothing left to buy some coal
I paid back the fiver
Owed to me mate
And paid the tick man
To keep up to date.
A few shillings
And a tenner was left in me purse
“I’ll have to pay me ma
She’ll say I’m gett’in worse.”
Now the hubby he said,
“ Do ye fancy a wee drink ?.”
I’ll have to admit neigh,
That made me think.
“ Sure there’s only a tenner
And that’s for me Ma.”
“Well, give her that back
Then we’ll tap your Da
And when he’s looking paid
We’ll go back to your ma.

.

An enjoyable and entertaining read.....I'm glad you explained what a tapper is because I'd probably still think it was a tap dancer...lol. I read the author's note and the light went on. Thanks for sharing and entering my contest.

    Enjoyed this...

On this side of the big pond we call 'em moochers. Hold on to your purse strings when they're about.
    Thanks for sharing this. Buddy

    A Fun Read!

    "...Then we’ll tap your Da..."

    [chuckle]

A wee bit like robbing Peter to pay Paul. [grin]

That was a fun read, Lady Ireland. Once again your humour tickles me. I enjoyed the wit and rhyme, as well as the vocab lesson. 'Dole' was a new one on me.

Now, I think I'll ring up me Ma.

I loved this poem. I'll have to check out more of your work when I have some more time but I really like your use of the Irish slang and such. Very nice.

    Excellent

I love the Irish accent it does work so well even for an american, I also appreciated the translation even tough I got most of it on the first read. THis would work well as part of a story. I want to read the book.

Awe. This is sweet and humorous; I got a chuckle out of it. Thank you this kind of reminds me of my dad. His folks were from Ireland and sometimes he would speak with the heavy accent. I sure miss him sometimes. He would have loved this poem too. Good job Cindy♥
