Last night I read the contest in which the person said they wanted to rewrite the Bible.
I did not enter it because I wanted to think on it.
I will not give you the argument you think is coming.
Rather I will say that writing the Bible in the manner you say will no doubt haunt you.
Because you see in our society today there are those with strong beliefs.
It is fine if you wish to jeopardize yourself but unless you were hatched you do have family.
Do you remember the author that wrote the book Satanic Verses?
And how a reward was posted on his head?
Many people will use things in the Bible to scare you.
The last word was from John and he implored people not to change what was written.
The reason being is because of the ones that would seek to do you harm if you go ahead with your plans.
Nothing you write about Jesus Christ and his Deity is going to change my mind.
But for everyone that would say yeah and use abusive language to prove there point there are those that would stone you.
This is how our society is in that the man that wrote The DeVinci Code has been trashed and so will you.
Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Press means nothing when you are standing on a box with your neck in a noose.
You have not read all the scrolls and the testimony of those who were alive at the time of Christ.
Neither have I and I will never say that I know all that there is in the Bible.
I have been reading it for fifty years but I do know this you will open a maelstrom of hate against you if do.
You will have to be prepared for that and can you spend the rest of your life with a price on your head?
In a city next to where I live a college professor that is Muslim has to send in her lesson through the phone.
Because she led a prayer at the college which included men and women.
The college is afraid that someone will attack her.
Solomon Rushde and her have protection but do you?
Think too of what your family will face if you decide to go ahead with this project.
I think you know because otherwise you would not have asked.
Nothing angers a group of people than putting down ones religious beliefs, political party or a darned race track driver.
There is a time to write and speak and a time to be quiet.
It is up to you to decide which.
Do not respond to this with foul language because I will not listen to it.
But just think on it because only you can decide how far you want this to go.
Author notes
I really do not want a bunch of foul mouthed writes because this is about the best advice that I can give. I have learned from my own experiences and see what happens when someone writes things contary to a particular religious documents or beliefs.

Okay
I had people email me with some very nasty remarks that a woman had no business even writing about the Bible. It makes for an topic that some get really carried away. I had one that said he was going to show up at my house and slap me down. Sure he would if he got past my dogs and a few things. I wrote a comment on another forum about the Flea market and a bunch came out of the woodwork with stuff that had no bearing on the Bible. This is what I mean. In a newspaper article that I am reading from an editor friend of mine he made no mention of any Biblical character whatsoever but commented on the sexual predators living in our county. One lady called Moses and Paul predators when that was not the truth. This is what I mean when I said certain factions take the ball and run with it. Sort of makes you wonder exactly what kind of Christian they are. Yes I admit I did that too at one time. But I study a lot of other doctrines as well as the Bible and still find something fascinating each time I read it. The group that I am in now sure are lively and we just enjoy each others company. We have laughed and said we have been in Luke for two years. But the funny thing is this college professor is having to hide, I mean geez lighten up folks. One person put a tribute to the Pope and some guy came back with that he was not God and in no way did she mention him in that category. This is what I mean. I wish I could share some of the nasty emails but they are in the hands of an investigator because of the nastiness. Everyone has a right to express themselves and I did but you would have thought that I was starting World War III. I swear too when the occasion calls for it. Some churches don't like the new improved Bible but I say read what the text is in what you can understand. I think a lot of the wording confuses people and that is why they don't get far. Don't worry it is the measure of a good writer to get bored every now and then. -
oh, and I have thought on it, I was getting bored with writing it but your post has inspired me to carry on. thank fuck for that.

well thanks, but 95% of people who have read it loved it and most have never read the bible nor would so at least they are getting some education eh?
and doesnt what you say prove how evil those who follow God the bible really are, if you are suggesting I am not safe and will be hunted down for writing what I like with my God given talent?

Done with respect
I want this to be a formal way of people to understand that now as I grow older and have learned a lot along the way that when you start tampering with the religious beliefs of anyone you stir things up that are sometimes hard to control. Many people have views on rewritting the Bible but have often found themselves in a lot of unexpected trouble that they did not nee. I cannot change the opinion of an athethist nor can they change mine. But I will say that continue to pray for them and all others whether want me to or not. -

Well,this is true,but I would never do that to Gods word,because I have a very healthy respect and love for God and for His word.The thought of doing that is completely alien to me.I cannot even imagine it!
