With such undulating passions
rising in my breast
boned and dry
I feel tears well up
Not knowing whose pain I cry for
or even if it's real
almost osmosis
But she strips my mind bare
naked as a child
I want her to fuck my inner place
with scorched tender hooks
I grasp onto it
Not knowing what it is
or even if I should
But she tells me
to cry
And I do
for she moves me
Lost in several bouts of translations
How can you explain
to someone
That it's only a song
and the tears are just an illusion moment
of inert madness
Of passions left to go cold
with salted paths
Leaving their wake
She fucks with me
time and time again
Because I have it on re-play
Author notes
This is only about this particular song.. Janis Joplin's version of Cry Baby.. I have listened to it for years and each time it has the same effect.. hence the tears.. I can actually feel her pain and soul when she sings it

oh...I love Janis Joplin! I've been doing the same thing lately except with Nina Simone's Strange Fruit. This was a great read! I expecially envy your last stanza!

That last verse is so strong. Like the wake after a motorboat. Her songs are so raw and passionate. As though she knew she only had a littlewhile to say everything.
Beautiful, achingly beautiful. -
Thanks hun.. glad you liked it..

Gill this is absolutely haunting my friend...wonderfully written too.

I know the way a song can make you feel inside can sometimes be indiscribable. You do it justice by your words. Great right full of powerful emotions. Thank you for sharing.

Ooh, way cool. I liked it a lot, especially the last part where you say you have it all on replay. That's cool. The picture really sets the mood, too. Cool poem!

This comment may sound a bit like Horus8 .. or Ed.
I'm in a bit of a breast obsession at present.
Needless to say, you got me.
You tell stories. Rich and kind of crooner poem stories. And I love how they are often about music.
She does have a way. Doesn't she? I understand.

My mother grew up with Janis Joplin in and near Port Arthur, Texas, and "Cry Baby" is probably my favorite song of hers. There's years of unkempt emotion and strife in her voice, and how I love it when it vibrates my mind and tickles my senses.
This is a fantastic ode to a fantastic song and musician. Thanks a lot for this, and keep up the wonderful writing! -
Bless you Karen.. as always.. your words bring me such peace.. thankyou. ..

thankie nephew.. yeah.. Tim Buckley is way cool too..

Yay yay I know that song well, I love it. Last two stanzas are splendido, full-on, porno, which is the only real way you can respond to Janis, I think. All or nothing.
Of course the picture makes you wonder whether the "she" of the poem is Janis or someone else: it can be read both ways. Frankly Mr Shankly, I think this is bloody marvellous in parts but I am not keen on the first two verses: where else would tears well up ... in one's fish tank? But then .... she tells me to cry and I do ... lost in several bouts of translations ... Oh God yes. Magnifique. -
Super ending, loved it, builds and reveals well.
I feel the same way listening to Tim Buckley.
