I Syntaxical Sequence

Special scansion ‘S’ syllabic

Syllables spring, shuffle, scuttle,
skittle syntax, scintillate
syntonically sans snuffle, shuttle –
synonyms shake sides, spine straight.

Stanza stanza swift succeeding
senses sweeps, song swifter swims,
succulent succession seeding
substitutions, surface skims.
Scrupulous semantics subtle
switchback spiral, summarize,
seek solutions smart, scrolled, supple,
solve set spectrum's smallish size.

Synonymous synchronising
sympathetic symphony
scores - Socratic symbolizing –
swivelling sonority.
Scansion salvo salvo scansion
strong succeeds, succeeding sends
successors streamlined sampling surging –
sanction seems so slight, scourge spends.

Systematic symbol spreading

sentence studied sentence signing
splendid splicing, - skate sans sleight
Sanely, simply, slight skill showing,
shading sentences, songs stream
sometimes swiftly, sometimes slowing, -
stupendous symphony supreme.

Sundry stanzas show scene setting

swain sincere serenely shopping, -

Soda siphon sipper, she snubs superficial snobs sharp, shrill,
slurping squashes syropy, she’ll scorn sham, shallow silverplate.
Supposing schnorrer, streetwise, sordid, shoplift spendthrift, shekels spill
should Susan scrounger stimulate, submit, submission simulate ?
Schnitzel, sauerkraut, salami, strudel supper should she still
start, stirring soup, so schnozzel salient scheming Solly shall spoliate ?
Should some squire settled, stumpy, stolid, - senile superannuate -
secret settlement suggestive, subrosa sponsorship submit
shall Susan stoop seduced, soiled she ? She’d spurn salacious saurian soulmate !

Should some sartorial sealskin slippered Senator shed silken shirt
subverting Susan she shall spurn such suggestions second-rate.

Should Sir Spencer Sicklybee smoked salmon sandwiches, scot-free
serve, seafood, soja seasoned scampi, squid, skate, seaweed, starfish salty sole, set shining silverware, Sevruga sturgeon seasoned slightly,

splendid Sue spurn sanity, shall spurious sophisticate,
snobbish saucy scion, see Sue sign silver-lined solvency
sacrificing serenity selecting security ?

Stephan Stephanovitch Siberiadid : - shall Susan sink, solicitate,
Stalin's socialistic State suddenly swear spousal state ?
Subversive stooping Stephan see sodden sipping sidecars, sherry,

Solely salubrious sunlit surge
Signals sensual Susan’s shrine.

Subsequently situations stitch salvation, stray strands sweep,
scabbard, sword, swap salutations spouse, swain, succumb, scale spired Softly stars shine, spousing sowing, simple service sanctifies, -
satisfactions, - she's still showing simultaneous song, surprise.

Saintly sermon sanctifying

Parody 19th century Author Unknown – Susan Simpson

Susan Simpson

Sudden swallows swiftly skimming
Sunset’s slowly spreading shade,
Silvery songsters sweetly singing
Summer’s soothing serenade.

Susan simpson strolled sadately
Stifling sobs, suppressing sighs.
Seeing Stephen Slocum, stately
She stopped, showing some surprise.

“Say” said Stephen, “sweetest sigher:
Say, shall Stephen spouseless stay ?”
Susan, seeming somewhat shyer,
Showed submissiveness straightway.

Summer’s season slowly stretches,
Susan Slocum she –
So she signed some simple sketches –
Soul sought soul successfully !

    This poem is exceptional!

The spirit of Edgar Allen Poe visited my bedside and said 'A sequential poem should go on forever'. Since the master had this to say. I choose to allow this entry.

Such a huge "S" vocabulary I can see... I hope this is not the only thing you can offer, as this is a rounds contest and there will be more challenges. Absolutely amazing.

  • Superb

I love the alliteration in all of these. As usual a great write, or two (lol). Thanks for sharing this with us.

i'm starting to believe you are a ...

living, breathing, pulsating thesaurus in our midst,
evolved from the breath of poetic tyrannosaurs Rex

sent to our community to devour our legislative crest,

upon which we bare our selves nakedly in verse.

ears/Seattle   startling,it was startling this golden poem!

well done poet, i've feel I've just ate all my meals today

in one swallow, gulp and breath!

Okay, whose the poet who can figure out how he did this?

  • Wow... I am impressed. Very very impressed. Thank you for this AMAZING entry. Please add you author's name, and option choice to your author's notes. (You can actually skip the choice thing. I can tell which one this was for.)

    Stupendous...

Hmmm....this definitely is impressive ~ boy, you must have used every single word known to the English-speaking world starting with an S!

However, I'm unhappily going to have to point out that the theme of this contest is anything to do with witchraft/magic/potions/spells...see where I'm heading with this?

This poem certainly is a work of art, though, so congratulations on that score!

Very impressive! Just one question as I am very new to the world of poetry, why? Is this a style of some sort or something you created yourself? Either way wow! I have no response, I'm speechless.....

HOW DO YOU DO THAT??? wow. I didn't know that ther were so many words that started with the letter S. Its just like a very longgg tongue twister. I really liked this stanza:
    Sudden swallows swiftly skimming
    Sunset’s slowly spreading shade,
    Silvery songsters sweetly singing
    Summer’s soothing serenade.

    ^^^^^that was cool.

Wow, I think you just murdered my tongue here. I swear that's as many s's as I've seen in a single poem. So there were a few spelling mistakes, without including the invented words which I didn't take into account as mistakes. I didn't let you know by IM what needed to be fixed as I did with other entries because it would have taken me way too much time, but it's ok. I see you're from Paris, as indicated on your author page, so you won't be penalized. But yes, anyways, the alliteration in there is quite excellent. I loved reading this out loud. Though, I did not like trying to make sense out of this. Some parts were easier to understand than others, but I'm probably just way too blonde at the moment to try deciphering the rest But that's ok, I did enjoy this piece anyways. Quite an interesting poem for what I understood. Thank you very much for your entry

    Excellent

I don't think I even know that many words beginning with 's' that is truly... amazing. I really need to get myself a thesaurus or something. I knew there had to be a mention of a surgeon and a scalpel in there somewhere, and was impressed to find it, but thats just my slight quirkyness.
I am still astounded (actually thought of a different word for once) at your sheer brilliance when it comes to poetry. I am very impressed with everything I read of yours, even if sometimes the vocabulary is a bit different. Definately enough to shock my English teacher, she'd have a coronary.

Well done, I hope you are proud of it, I can see an awful lot of work went into it.

    Wow

Jonathan, this is a tour de force of alliteration, meter and rhyme, which leaves me breathless and a little confused.
In the chapter headings, you have used IT instead of II, twice, so I miss the point. I confess that it is the end of a busy day, and my attention span is not what it should be.
As a culinary note, shashlik is shishkabob, hardly ever stuffed, but it could be scorched. I applaud your ingenuity.
