Paths From the Past

From a place in the distance.
I see a narrow path.
Lined with tiny flowers.
Of visions from my past.

The flowers start to wilt.
And the spiders soon emerge.
From their places in the shadows.
They crawl about like worms.

Their presence makes me shiver.
From my thoughts I hate the most.
The past is never pleasant.
Please don't make me go back.

Each step forward.
Is like five steps back.
Am I coming or going?
Who is the one to decide?

A reason for my being.
Why I'm still alive.

Like the pages in a photo album.
I sit and look back.
Through all the things I've dealt with.
The good times and the bad.

I've gotten through the worst they say.
Being a teen is always hard.
Just keep going straight.
Don't take any beaten paths.

Take the straight and narrow.
But where's the fun in that?

Author notes

I started writing this the other day, and I figured I might as well finish it, and post it here because I haven't written anything in the longest time. So, for anyone who actually reads this. Thank you for taking the time.
