Gone
All that’s left are pictures.
Memories.
Nothing tactile.
Nothing solid.
Nothing to wrap my arms around and hold.
Pictures fade.
Memories too.
Like you did.
Once, life personified.
Vibrant! Effervescing!
Radiant!
Now, just dust.
Consumed by fire,
What joy in its image created,
Death, in its vengeance cremated.
And in its place,
A void.
An abyss.
With me at its centre.
Falling, flailing,
Nothing to cling to,
Just perpetual loss.
No respite.
For when I think of you,
The only descriptive my mind will give,
Is “Gone”

How annoying! The same thing happened to me recently... the contest holder even tried to tell me they had viewed the poem (when I challenged them
) but I could clearly see that the poem had had no views from when I entered it into the contest.
Mine was a prewrite, but it's worse when you write a piece especially for a contest and it isn't even read... now that is just insulting! Report them I say!! Report them!!
I bet if you look into it… the winner was probably their best mate!

Grrr.. this WAS written for, and entered into, a contest, but the person judged the contest without bothering to view it. Not impressed.

Having never lost anyone, this came from my imagination, aimed at the contest to make the person cry / feel sad. If it's reflective of loss, then i guess this boy done good
If it makes people realise others can empathise...though they've not been there themselves.... even better!

Yup! This is sad all right!
I attended the cremation of a sweet 11 year old boy in December. He was hit by a car outside school, and this poem sums up some of the awful feelings I have about that.
These lines in particular…
”Nothing to wrap my arms around and hold…
Nothing to cling to,
Just perpetual loss.
No respite.”
must, I’m sure, reflect the intense sense of loss his parents are suffering.
It is so hard to comprehend how someone, so alive and young and vibrant can be snuffed out in an instant like that…
”Now, just dust.
Consumed by fire,”
Very, very sad!
