Inject the lovely magic potion into your bloodstream,
Let your nerves calm themselves, so they don't scream.
Make sure that you are tightly gripping the wall,
If your sweaty hands slip, you will start to fall.
Now the room is spinning and everything is in slow motion,
Don't bother thinking now, you will never get the notion.
This is your life, it's what you live for,
Be careful, don't trip and then hit the floor.
"Oh my God!!!" you say, This feels so very nice.
You will go broke though trying to pay the price.
You say you aren't addicted, you do this for kicks,
But I saw you selling yourself to feel the big fix.
Hated by many, but loved by all the rest,
This is what makes you feel at your best.
Take that sharp edge and puncture your skin,
You don't even know where that needle has been.
You don't care about that, it's not on your mind,
You want more, and more is what you need to find.
You are unaware of the rampant infection you have caught,
Just another glowing side affect this disease has brought.
You are flying solo, there is only seating for one.
No friends or family are important on this trip of fun.
How many more heirlooms are you willing to pawn?
So you can escape the night, and return at dawn.
You are killing yourself slowly and poisoning your soul,
There is pus draining from your favorite gaping hole.
You are losing your lonesome grip on reality altogether,
Your emaciated flesh makes you lighter than a feather.
Is this what you aspired to be as a child?
Having no direction but having the urge to be wild?
So, go ahead, Mr. Worthless, and boot again,
You don't care why, and you don't care when.
And when someone has asked you, "Where have you been?"
Tell them you have been on the magic carpet ride of sin.
Why not just use the quicker method of a gun or a knife?
Because that soiled needle is ruining your soiled life.
Arianna

Wow ! this is really good! awww the meaning is so strong and deep, and the ryhme scheme is absolutely amazing..I love poems that actually have a great moral to it...and the imagery is great..this is really intense..but this is something ppl can definitely relate to, a lot of ppl have dealt with this type of addiction...great write! You're brilliant!

You have absolutely captured the horrible side of what so many in this world suffer from. The disease of addiction is all consuming, and the thoughts rationalize EXACTLY as you have so brilliantly described in this realistic penning. My prayers go out to every addict still suffering.
God Bless -

Arianna this was (Im lost for words) unbelievable? I have never stuck needles into me and although can have my blood taken dont like them but what you have described is what I have stood back and seen friends go through. Great write.

Phenomenal write, Arianna. I had been wondering when we might see another piece from you. This piece is both stark, and societally important. The description, which appears to be of heroin abuse, is chilling, and correctly timed metrically. I also noted the lines "You are unaware of the rampant infection you have caught, /Just another glowing side affect this disease has brought", which are poignant insofar as drug addiction not only is its own "infection" insofar as at slowly destroys not only the person who is addicted, but those around him/her; however, in the case of heroin, there is the further terrible danger of HIV infection, which can be gleaned from those words (or at least a hint of that problem). A fascinating and tremendous write.
