That’s the discussion here;
To come so close to Truth,
And yet not come so near.
The fragrance of the Lord,
Wafting about one’s face;
The Truth has drawn near a nose,
Yet smells like burning mace.
Then judgment comes about,
From someone sadly low;
To speak against the Maker,
Attempting to strike a blow.
In folly he says, “There is no God,”
And echoes the chilling rant;
Claims wisdom, or at least a chuckle,
Yet wisdom is found scant.
I know not what He would judge;
Depends upon one’s own choice,
With every thought, deed, or word,
The one will know His voice.
Most hopefully not today,
Or for that, tomorrow,
One’s destiny’s bound with eternal joy,
Or in scathing sorrow.
So one may call upon the Lord,
Or burn the bridge behind;
One may come to know the wrath,
Or find that He is kind.
The decision’s already been made,
By Jesus, be assured;
By the acts that we will do,
Or the words we’ve made heard.
The Truth’s declared the world’s condemned;
They’ve rejected the Christ;
The evidence for the Court is seen
By how they’ve lived their lives.
Author notes
If the poem is to be read, so must the following verses:
”For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,…”-- John 5:22
“But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.” -- Matthew 12:36
“Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
Do not add to His words,
Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.”—Proverbs 30:5-6
”For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”-- Revelation 22:18-19
"He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”—John 3:18
Like I said, Michael; if what is written here is not the truth, then you have nothing to be concerned about. This may only be an idle contest. Oops! Did I say "idle"?
But seriously, I did not enjoy posting this.

i think this is an awesome piece
whenever i hear people say they aren't afraid of hell or they don't think they will go there even though they don't believe in God and then they bash Him at the same time
I'm just like "God hit them!" but, He gives us free will
and truth always surfaces and there will be a day when EVERY knee will bow and EVERY tounge confesses that He is Lord
and a part of me wants to be like "see! i told you" but really i ache more for them b/c they are blind-it's sad-but, they choose to be at the same time
wonderful piece

Being Christian is more than theological, for man cannot live by bread alone, hence the words from John in the bible, you have to breathe, walk , talk and live every word and be 'Christ-like'. Being Christ-like entails, showing the fruits of the spirit of which is spoken of in Corinthians, for it also says that we may have the gift of knowlege and of wisdom of speaking in tongues and prophecy, but alas if we have not love we have Nothing! Mathew speaks of many who shall cry out "Lord, i did this and that in your name, and he will say 'i do not know you' and turn away, being the works without faith and love, selfish prideful acts for ones own glorification and not the Lords. That is all i am saying on the matter, as debating and argueing leads to sin = pride. God bless all. Good poem moof

Bob, this is certainly an excellent well researched poem. You have out done yourself, I believe it to be Biblically sound. The comments to this poem are certainly interesting as well. Well done on this Bob. God bless you! ~Melissa♥

lol, TheMOof, I am not interested in getting into a debate over this with you or anyone. Suffice it to say that I enjoyed your poem. And I too have found the word of christ, in my very being, and strive to live it moment by moment.

To say one is a Christian is to say one is tied to Christ. Since He referred to the Old Testament and spoke of the need to abide in His word, we would need to know what is His word; where do we find this Word?
As said before to Michael, and it can be found on this page, there is compelling evidence that the book known as the Bible is the Word of God, and is reliable. Why would God not leave us with something to know His wishes? -
Very good write, and I send out my appreciation for the time and effort it took to write this. I happen to agree with Michael regarding the bible, for the most part, but I like this poem nonetheless. And yes, I am a christian!
Nice job and good luck in the contest!

I understand that you may have made up your mind, even if there is compelling evidence you haven't considered. There are many people that have made the same decision, without checking out the facts. I admit that I don't have complete knowledge of the Bible, but I have enough for myself to say that the Bible, Old and New is reliable. That is my conviction. There is nothing in the Bible to say I should take a leap of faith, to my knowledge. Trusting God and the Word of God can still happen even when I don't take those leaps of faith.

Only said "It may be that it wasn't a snake". Maybe what I should've said is that there is a language to the Bible all it's own, just like Americans have their own way of saying things. It may be that crawling around was a metaphor. Hard to say.
What is amazing is that the Bible also talks about dinosaurs before their bones were discovered, or that the world hangs on nothing, before astronauts or satellites were in space. It also talks about jetstreams and weather patterns long before the science of meteorology.
Why did God tell the Hebrews to wait eight days before circumcising their male children? Today we know it takes eight days, naturally, before the bloodstream has the ability to coagulate. What we do now is provide chemicals or vitamins to speed up the process in these infants.
We even have accounts (at least one) of a man in the 19th century that was swallowed by a whale, and survived.
Why is it that almost all cultures have a version of the flood account, long before the Bible had become more accessible? Why do linguists and archaeologists now speculate that human language may have started to disseminate from the area of Iraq? That seems to agree with the Tower of Babel incident.
From what I understand the turn of the archaeologist's spade ends up revealing things that agree with biblical accounts, to include the Old Testament. It looks as though the walls of Jericho fell straight down. And if I could remember more, I would tell you other ways the Old Testament has been found to an incredibly reliable document. In fact, the same discipline I referred to earlier can be used to test those documents.
Then don't forget Jesus, in the New Testament, refers to the Old Testament, to include Adam, Jonah, and Daniel. He talks about them like they were real people.
Hypothesis: If Jesus could be proven to be a true historical person, and the Gospels are reporting actual events, then the Old Testament is reliable as well, since Jesus relied on the Tanach (Hebrew name for those older writings). Why would the Son of God, which means He is equal with God, refer to something that is unreliable?

ok, if it aint a snake why tell him he will spend the rest of his days crawling on his tum?
-
hmmm yes. but you are referring to the gospels, I am referring to the bible. you see that is the whole thing, you are trying to convince me that I am wrong in this because of what the BIBLE teaches (not just the gospels) and I am trying to explain that I think the BIBLE is the biggest work of fiction ever. You can tell me that in your opinion you think I am wrong and that God will judge me, but I don't believe He will, I am sure if he has bothered to read the bible He will agree that it is all a load of powermongering bollocks meant to keep the meek and ignorant under control, as most religions are. God is where we find him. I reiterate. I am referring to the whole Bible, so I say again, hello mr talking snake.
-
The snake's not in the Gospels. Read your bible again! LOL!
Actually, in the Hebrew, snake can be interpreted "shiny one", or "Slippery One". It may be that it wasn't a snake, but something who is snake-like in character, i.e., crafty or deceptive. It also implies the original name of Satan, that being Lucifer. Or the Shining One. -
cool, go for it and link me to it when it is done. I for one would be interested to hear science prove there was indeedy a talking snake. lol. and yes, I know I am not going to hell, although, if everyone who doesnt believe in the bible goes there, I think it will be a much more interesting place, not to mention the superior central heating system!

Good write, I liked it a lot
It was so well written and deep, I loved reading this spiritual poem
Keep writing, and good luck although I feel the contest may be too biased to win
All the best,
Pozo

Well, I would be remiss to not point out that I am not saying you're going to hell. What I am saying is that the sentence has already been passed. It's the execution that has not yet happened. To find out where one stands, all one has to do is respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and submit to Him in obedience. Make Him your Lord.
Sometime soon, I think I am going to write an article on how the Gospels are scientifically proven to be reliable as ancient historical documents. There is a secular science/discipline that proves that. -
ha, and anyway, all the above would only be a problem if your religion is the right one to follow. Like I said, I do believe in God, just not the bible or its word.
-
Ok, Michael, I feel led to say this to you:
I love you with His love...There, you got it!
-
Michael! What if you don't die the way you think you wish? What is amazing is that you once told me you live a good life. If that is really the case, then don't worry. God is probably some "Good-Time Daddy" and He'll say, "It's okay, Mikey! Come on in, I'll love you anyway!" Whoops! I think I just fibbed...I better go to my prayer closet for me as well as you. Thank the Lord He doesn't disown His children.
Seriously, the Bible says, "Now is the day of salvation", not on your death bed. Repent now, while you can!
Pardon me, I am being kind. I am the one standing on the side of the road that leads to a washed-out bridge, as I see my friend Michael heading toward it. In kindness I am telling him, "Don't go that way! The bridge is out!" -
only joking, not dead. yet.
-
but then, cant I finish writing it and repent on my deathbed? As long as I dont die quickly I should be ok, I will stay away from fast trains and hope I dont have a heart att...
-
why thank you. I guess if it is true I am fucked! Thanks for writing this and entering the contest. Its a pity you couldnt fit some of those verses into it but I may be asking a lot there! Well done and good luck.
