Religion?! Not fit for a Pigeon!

The trouble with religion,
is it's not fit for a pigeon.
Even this idiot bird,
shouldn't suffer His word.

Sometimes it'll cause a war,
often a petty fight,
shouting my faith's better than yours,
God only knows who's right!

Why is there so much contention?
Why quarrel and squabble and curse?
Over the stupid, ridiculous invention,
of scripture, gospel and verse.

It's had it's day anyway,
Been replaced by sport.
More Maradonna's than Madonna's,
I'm happy to report.

I admit, some songs were good,
I'd sing with vim and zest.
Some stories in the Bible were rude,
I always liked them the best.

But cast it aside and wave goodbye,
to all the notions of salvation.
WE'LL solve the problems of this rotten Earth,
Forget God and worship the nation.
In a secular world we'll all stand equal,
do it now, before this poem gets a sequel

Quite right. I usually wipe my arse on Gideon bibles in hotels. The paper's a bit rough though and the print rubs off on your botty. Good poem.

Ha! I loved this! I actually totally agree with it! I've always wondered why we continue with religions even though they're so pointless. I also really liked the ending. I really like how strongly opinionated your poems are. I believe I will add you to my favorities list...

lol. I got more enjoyment out of reading the reponsed to your work rather than the poem itself. And no offense, it's a great poem. But gawd almighty, some of these people need to lighten up!
Good job with this, and even sacred religion needs a little satire now and then.
    Peace

Aww, leave istillhatememore alone! It's CUTE that she has no sense of humour and no idea about irony! Let her coven do chants and stuff about you if she likes. I wish her luck in praying for bigots like me *beams*

ummm...well. I liked the message, but your delivery was a little lacking. don't get me wrong, it was a good poem, but I think a little improvement as far as cadence goes could help you.

:as the author glares at her: Hey! It said critical review! I was critical!

    istillhatememore,

Intolerence is exactly what you are showing. You are mistaking my faith for whatever you call intolerence. The writer of this has been honest and open with me, much more graciousness than you are displaying. If you wish to talk tolerance, don't contradict yourself. Please, leave this alone. I'm not trying to be hostile, I'm trying to say that if you must rip on what someone believes, be logical but not hypocritical.

    God bless,

Everyone has religion. It's just that some religions are more overt than others. Faith is a neccesity for the human mind; no one can live as a pure skeptics. Even skeptics have faith-- in their own skepticism.

    Good!

Religion and comedy makes for a tough audience, and you need a couple of leaps of faith to get from pidgeons to soccer! But this was a good effort and it made me laugh even though I sense a more serious point in the background.

I clicked and therefore feel bound to comment. As a poem, it's well written and doesn't have an exact rhyme scheme, which works well for this piece. I find it over all an extremely sad piece though. While I do agree that 'religion' isn't always necessarily good, I am a Christian and don't follow 'religion' I follow God. I also don't believe there's ONE right religion, but I'm sure you aren't interested in my opinion so... simply... well written poem. ~Melissa♥

Nice job. Can't help but love poems like this. Religion masks the truth of the world and provides an excellent guise for hypocrasy. Organised religion has always and will always exist in some form or another. One day, hopefully, people aren't praying directly to Ford or Microsoft. Excellent write.

    Atheistic poetry miracle sir!

OH MY GAWD (damnit, I just blasphemed through the medium of text, damnit I said damnit, shit I did it again, AND I cursed, oh woe!) you are going STRAIGHT to the FIERY PITS AND LAKES of hell. It's gonna be hot down there. I'd tell you to pack your speedos but you won't need them as you're going to be sodomised by the devil for all eternity. I hope you're HAPPY.

I will be praying for you.

Oh my god! (excuse the pun) This is great! I love how true this is!!!! I wish more people held this view, in fact. Great job with this, and keep up the good work! The only thing I noticed was that your one rhyme, fuss and verse, was off, but that's okay, because it worked together so well I wouldn't change it. Grand poem!

    Sad...

It's sad to see that you're so against your creator. The poetic form is okay, but it's depressing to see that you can't love God back. Why do you feel this is neccesary? Oh well, keep writing (hopefully on less antagonistic subjects),

organised religion should be destroyed... I think it was just created so that people didn't have to be scared of there uncertanties, to give themselves a reason to live - oh and so leaders could scare everyone into doing what they say. Religon extremist's are the scariest ppl in the world, and probably the most dangerous.. too bad they are mainly world leaders... oh well.. we're stuffed! Nice poem
    keep writing

My theory is that religion was created by man as an early form of government. A way to invoke fear in society so that they will always do what you tell them to or risk going to hell. I agree it's run it's course. but I think that a lot of people still need it. They're just not strong enough to live life on their own two feet. I really enjoyed reading this. Good work.
