Rain Song

Written in 1999

Sometimes I sit alone,
Lost in thought
As some might think.
I like to listen to the rain,
And figure myself out;
I do it often,
But I can't think.
My mind is too blocked,
And my eyes wheep too much,
But I listen intently
As the rain hits the glass.
Laughter and voices can be heard
In the distance, yet close;
I choose not to join them,
But instead I allow myself
To be swallowed in to
The rain's gentle song.
I sit back and close my eyes,
Letting the sound take over me.
It is powerful and loving,
Like the strongest white magick;
It opens my heart
And caresses my soul,
And mixes with the lonely tears
That moisten my face.

Author notes

This is one of those poems that I wrote where I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when I wrote it, mainly because I wrote it out in the poem. It was a rainy day and I was sitting in the storage room of the store I owned when I was 19 years old. In the next room, the tarot room, were several of my employees and some friends of mine and their's having a pizza I'd bought them and just laughing away. I was stuck in this storage room stressing out because my business was failing and I had put every cent in my name in to it. I had a partner that was completely worthless, she just came in and played games on the computer all day while everyone else worked. And I spent a lot of time crying and thinking because I didn't want to lose my store. It was a new age/metaphysical book store, and we'd had it done to look like a garden inside, it was rather beautiful. And it was my "happy place." It was my world and my everything. And I was losing it slowly... no one else seemed to care. So that's what helped spawn this one.
