Scars

Missing image
Seasons change, another year has slipped away
and autumn’s breath kisses my cheek once again.
Bittersweet memories trace the roadmaps of the mind,
traveling their course to the far reaches of the heart
once, so full of love, now scarred beyond recognition--
a betrayal of sorts, feelings of something left undone.

Would it be that reality had not played its cruel hand?
But alas, one can only wait to see what destiny will offer.
Watching as yet again the trees give way to splendor,
just before the land becomes barren, likened to an empty heart,
spending its winter's hibernation in search of a merciful spring--
a renewal of substance, faith that in time the scars will fade.

Oh, to once again experience the warm rays of summer…
As the heart heals, giving way to recognize love anew.

Author notes

Trying very hard to move on with life since my husbands death, but even time in it's ever changing seasons brings melancholy feelings when I least expect it. But I know without doubt, that my heart and life will go on.

    Passionate

The picture goes very well with this. Beautiful imagery, and very passionate all the way through. It's a great metaphor of the heart and how time weathers it so, dealing it a terrible blow on occasion. In that last little cry, at the end, there seems also to be a little ray of hope, very faint, but one knows it's there, the possibility of feeling better.

    Soothing...

I like your story-telling, as well as the mood throughout the poem. At first, the change of season dictates the poem creating a mood of reflection and remorse, and by the end of poem we see a "bright light," telling us good things are going to happen once again.

    I liked the following:

"memories trace the roadmaps of the mind"

"the land becomes barren, likened to an empty heart"

Overall, this is a very polished poem, I enjoyed the tone, the style and your smooth wording. Very nice writing.

I'm very sorry abouy your husband, I'm not married so I can only imagine how hard it would be.

This poem however, while springing from that sorrow, does speak of hope and renewal. It is beautifully written and touches much of my own sorrowful ashes which I need to rise from.

Listen to me, I sound like my life is in ruins, lol.
