My Oath To You
When you are sad,
I will share your tears.
When you are scared,
I will comfort your fears.
When you are worried,
I will give you hope.
When you are confused,
I will help you cope.
And when you are lost,
and can't see the light,
I shall be your beacon,
shining ever so bright.
This is my oath,
I pledge to the end.
Why you may ask,
because you're my friend.
When you are sad,
I will share your tears.
When you are scared,
I will comfort your fears.
When you are worried,
I will give you hope.
When you are confused,
I will help you cope.
And when you are lost,
and can't see the light,
I shall be your beacon,
shining ever so bright.
This is my oath,
I pledge to the end.
Why you may ask,
because you're my friend.
Author notes
When I first wrote this poem back in 1998, I had no idea that it would touch as many lives as it has. This poem has been translated into different languages, been used as wedding vows, inspired sermons, and has been adopted by several organizations. Amazing how something so simple can reach out to so many lives.
