Dear Lord, We Grieve (Rondeau)

Dear Lord, we grieve that she has gone,
her span of years so short, yet done.
We ask for comfort in the faith
that as she passes into death,
she cannot pass beyond your son.

Our knowledge that our life was won
still fails when circumstances stun,
and loving children take no breath;
dear Lord, we grieve.

Lord, in our weakness do not shun
your servants' broken hearts. Begun,
travail that's only helped by faith;
for as she passes into death
we find no brightness in the sun.
Dear Lord, we grieve.

Author notes

A Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short - a refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the same metrical length).

My condolences to you and your family, Hugh.

    Beauty, Margaret, sincere, and true.
    So good to see a trophy too,
    byproduct but it's well deserved.
    Intention in its grief, reserved.

    The faith in it is strong and real;
    it shares a loss that we all feel
    who have suffered loss. It speaks
    of our compassion and still seeks
    by faith, God's help as we endure
    the heavy grief so premature.

    Those of us with faith secure
    know that not all ends, assure
    that she in spirit lives, and more,
    will be with us forevermore.

    I don't know Hugh that well, nor what happened, but your words are a great tribute. You know the right tone for the right situation--a gift in itself!

    You're a nice lady.

    Thank you Susan, you know Hugh and I are favorites because we have this in common. The refrain called to me, so I wrote this rondeau.

    Beautifully Penned Heartfelt!

    My Beloved Margaret, This is a loving tribute to Huge, Jacqui, Edna, and all his world family that embrace all their hearts as one love. The journey to eternity is never easy but in his eyes is all
    the truth we know. I embrace your song and love as a universal tribute to Hugh and our universal family. "Romans 8:38-39 "For i am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in our Lord.”
