Here I am
Two women
sharing a shattered soul.
Longing for redemption
that will make my psyche whole.
One of us is filled with hope
reaching for the light.
The other
bathes in darkness
enveloped by the night.
We’re bound
by just a filament
our longing for a child.
I pray each night
in faithfulness
but God she has reviled.
We take the shots
We take the pills
and chart the passing days.
Whilst she seeks signs;
and beseeches shrines.
I curse the long delays.
We share the pain
when blood and tears
wash our dreams to hell.
When the monthly flow
crudely reminds
that our womb has yet to swell.
But we further spilt
in our anguished grief
We don’t see eye to eye.
and I’m down here
on abraded knees;
while she’s howling at the sky.
Here I am
two women
and I can’t distinguish me
Am I she who covets
her child’s love
Or the one who echoes her plea.
Patricia Gibson-Williams
Author notes
This is how I’m feeling today. So much hope and so much despair, and tomorrow I’ll know for sure if I’ve been blessed ~ or cursed ~ to another month of shots and pills and waiting. Patti

Enjoyed this very much. Good rhythm & rhyme. I think every woman can relate to the duality of our personalities. Very poignantly stated in this poem. I hope things sort themselves out for you.
