Ian was a young viking warrior,
he always sailed upon the sea,
the ocean was his first love,
it would not set his heart free.
The maiden loved him dearly,
he was her moon and her sun,
waiting at the ocean's edge,
till each sunset had begun.
One day the sea was swirling,
the viking ship was blown around,
the lightning flashed from Heaven,
with a deadly cracking sound.
The viking ship was on fire ,
they were far away from shore,
the warrior knew the end was near,
as he watched the fire roar.
He would always be with his love,
as the ship sank into the sea,
the sea had been his first love,
now he was with her eternally.
The maiden sits and waits for him,
to return upon the evening tide,
not knowing they would never marry,
she would never become his bride.
The years past by so very slowly,
the maiden would never love again,
one day she went to the ocean's edge,
she watched as the tide rolled in.
She waited for the fading sunset,
heartbroken she walked into the sea,
the tide took her out that night,
she was with her love for eternity.

Wonderful write here.
This is very sad and carries a deep message about love never ending. One that I found to be very heartwarming as well. You sure put a lot of effort into what you write here. I do wish you the best of luck in this contest. It reminds me of a Garth Brooks song along the same theme. -
Thank you for reading my poem and leaving a nice comment. It is appreciated. Take care, Sandy

Thank you so much my friend. Reading your fantasy poem the other day inspired me to take a stab at this poem. It was kind of fun to write and get my mind off something that had nothing to do with me. So many of my poems are of me and my feelings, past and present. It felt great to forget for a while and have a little fun in fantasy land
Well you take care my Sunshine Annie.
Thanks for the everyday smiles I get from your comments. God Bless. Take care, Sandy

Pozo, I really thank you for the wonderful comment. It feels good sometimes to write about fantasy, things that have nothing to do with my life. Most of my poems are and it feels great to get away sometimes. I hope all is well with you. I know I don't get to comment and read your poems as I use to. I will read some today. I was up till one the other night trying to get caught up. Take care my friend. Jason says hello. He doesn't get on as much either. Well you take care my friend and God Bless you. Love, Sandy
