Hello to the hopeful
I knew I'd get here soon
An underlying faith
Led me through to this new moon
And mabye life is short
And love never really dies
Interpretation's in inflection
So I suppose I've learned my lesson
But there were nights I know I knew
When truth was what I shared with you
Underneath this cosmic mass
We're contemplating overrating this thing we know as grand romance
As just a big parade
And I'll sit outside and talk with you
And all their dreams are coming true
If they'd stop looking quite so close
And beating the life out of all their hope
A yellow day for you and me
Is what this tale will come to be
And someday soon I'll write it
In the history of a girl
Spring and summer, they were ours
Dreams and schemes
And a million stars
You've given me a memory you can't take back
I wonder if you realize that
Friends along a silent road
Won't stay still for long
I love the way they come to say
That what I need is song
Time's the worst of fears for me
It stretches past the dawn
Companions down a twisted lane
Are grand, vibrant and mock profane
The laughing frustrations that we gain
Are the things I'll credit
My togetherness to
In my history of this girl
Sparkled spangles in the sky
On an un fourth night in July
Cokes and grass and seasons past
I love you, and I can't say why
There's a sunset explanation
And a clumsy justification
In all the tribulations
That I've been through since we met
There's a spring I can move on to
And a knowledge that I want to
And I'm walking through the open door
But you should understand
That this memory is part of who I am
I can't forget
After all, it's all written down
In the history of this girl
Author notes
Mostly this is about how 'moving on' isn't ever the right term. I mean, your perspective changes on things, but really, is it ever NOT a part of you? That's the risk you take when you invest in people. It's worth it too. : )

You had several lines that I really liked.
"Hello to the hopeful, I knew I'd get here soon".
And "If they'd stop looking quite so close and beating the life out of all their hope" and more.
And there is much wisdom here are well. You are absolutely correct that we are changed by our experiences in life The important thing is to keep the proper perspective when those experiences are painful so that we can stay in that place of hope. The alternative is rather bleak, isn't it!
