Domestic themes in silence

Domestic themes in silence

Age and hurt and related things
will spill our hearts
like scattered beans
and the tumbling rune
and in those times
that she and I once called dreams
we were new to this love theme.

When I was young
I saw my mother cry
the man she loved
had beat her dry.
I held her hand
as she let go
Though I did not know
I was really new to this love theme.

And so our life goes from
high to lows
My mother's life has grown old
the shadows anchor in our soul
the pain won't go
and yet I know
I am still new to this love theme.

Just now and then
I am moved to cry
the man I first loved
my love denied
my love passed on by.
A brutal man
and yet it seems
I know his tune
it carries on
in those vibes
in those women
in those wrongs
of their songs
of my own song and
I know I will never understand this love theme.
