It was the sunset of your life,
crimson shades on an oceans ripples.
But the moon is high, and the sun is dead,
so why does the sea still radiate red?
I remember those waves that sliced through your soul;
punctured your heart on that moonlit night.
Now your affection floods into the sea,
displacing this ocean with satin scarlet.
I used to see my own reflection,
a shimmering image of love and passion.
But now all I see is a moonlight glow,
in this mirror of malleable waves.
Were I to dip into this ocean
and cup these waters in my hands,
it would drain between my fingers,
leaving a seabed and wounds and scars.

Thank you very much! I've been trying to scanning through the other entries and leaving comments where needed, and I personally think I've got my work cut out for me. But thank you very much for this inspiring response!

NIIIICE nice nice nice!! Shit, you have done a great job here and i'm a bit baffled by the lack of comments and applauds! Great choice of song and brilliant poem to evolve from it (whatever it twigged in you is pure and brilliant). Excellent language and i like the consistancy of your theme throughout the piece, that worked really well. Dark and beautiful, i'm intrigued and feel sorry for the other contestants cos you've just raised the bar!! Good luck anyway; PA.
