should never have

I should have noticed
How your lips reeked of foreboding,
How your breath sighed of pus and perfume -
I should never have noticed
How smooth your tongue was.

I was pregnant with illusions, soon not,
(pulled back out, like silk scarves,
through my legs)

I should never have taken into account
How beautiful your movements were.

How smooth
Your tongue was.
