Truism

From my studies of psychology, religions, and personal experience these conclusions I have reached

I've found that in my life the practice of this proves true

Thoughts dictate attitude.  It is important to master one's thoughts

Don't waste time worrying about mistakes.  File them for reference and do better

Truism is a philosophy, not a religion.  There is no right religion.  All religions attempt to understand, communicate with, and contain God.  Many religious leaders try to manipulate followers with fear and superstition for personal gain or power and the others seem caught in their own madness.

A Truist seeks truth and values honesty

A Truist recognizes what is true and provable

A Truist chooses to do good because it is the better way

A Truist tries to be nice to others because it is a more beneficial course

Truists question all things, but mostly themselves

Truists realize that in order to be most effective, they must love themselves and consider themselves first

A Truist seeks the truth about God, humanity, and all things

A Truist's goal is to grow and expand

People are not inherently evil.  People have the ability to choose.  The vast majority of humankind chooses to strive for good

Attitude is the major determining factor of life experience.  The better one's attitude, the better one's responses to each situation

A Truist's goals

To do better each day
To try to be open and aware of the many possibilities and make intelligent choices
To enjoy life and encourage others to do the same
To be truthful in order to better perceive truth; with eyes which love truth
To respect others and attempt to be nice to them
To constantly improve and expand
To make the most of each moment

Author notes

This works for me and has for quite a while now.  I hope you like this.  This philosophy has given me greater freedom, more insight and more enjoyment from life.

I am definitely a truist - in my pursuit of truth and balance in life I have learned many things about thriving in this world .... you clarify this all very well - to "spread the word"

At this point in my life, I am not too interested in religion and philosophies such as truism. I am perfectly content living in my own fantasy world that seems to work for me and I do not feel the need to use another's ideas as references and rules for how I should live my life. I actually agree with almost everything you wrote here except for the part about evil, as I refuse to believe in this primitive concept. However, I don't believe this is a reason to limit and define myself and something. If the goal is truly to grow and expand, bounderies and definitions must be broken down. only then our minds are free to accept and learn.

There does seem to be a whole lot of truth written within the Bible, I just hope not to make the wrong decisions with having to connect with the Almighty if I am as so priviledged, for it may also seems quite a challenge to determined if my actions are biased. So far, I have felt rather fortune throughout my life.

    Excellent

Truism sounds wonderful to me, I have read your conclusions and agree with most. The only thing that worries me is, like most beliefs in this world be they religious or not.Once the belief is recognised by many then always someone will take advantage to gain power or to make money from it. So thankyou for sharing but I will keep your beliefs to myself.

    Excellent write BRAVO!

I suspect that people judge themselves much more harshly than God. I find that the Bible is a poor account of the history of the evolution of four religions. It is full of myths, but that doesn't mean that there aren't some truths. The main truth is a person's personal experience with God. I find God everywhere. In all things.

Such Is The Faith I Have

I was once a Chritian until I was shown a very large hard cover book that was written by over 200 people who were top students among all universities. They gave direct references to all of the listed biblical inconsistancies which were well over 300 that are obvious. This was a huge eye opener for me. I highly believe in miracles because nothing would exist if there weren't any... so I live to do my best to understand how to live in harmony causing the least harm, if any. People have been very impressed with my personality and would tell me that it is extremely rare to meet others like myself... usually smiling every moment... sometime they even wonder if I ever get upset... by which I occasionally do, I just prefer not to dwell on it. If there is a God, I am very certain that we would be judged by what we have in our hearts instead of what we believe.

Let's hear it for truism. You expressed what I think and never have been able to put into words. I wonder if we would make truism a religion if it would be more accepted amongst the masses...for I have found that many times when I try to express my beliefs( which are exactly the ones you write off)I am called a Hedon . Yet I find so much more tolerance and acceptance in this way than I do in many organised religions who choose to condemn and attack all of those that do not join their chosen flock Thank you for featuring this and giving me a chance to read. I would have missed it otherwise,

I believe that God is in all things including all people. I don't think God favors any religion. My religion is my own belief and while it is perfect for me, I don't claim it to be the right religion, either. It is just my personal attempt to know God. To me, God is everywhere.

I'm a christian, and although there are some philosophies in this that i don't agree with, there are so so many that I do agree from a christian perspective. I'm interested, what do you see as the truth about God?

Jesus said to love God and to love others. I do not disagree with that, but I do think you should put yourself first, others as you choose next, and God last. I love God more than anything but myself. I feel that if you do not love yourself, you wrong God. I don't think God wants us to sacrifice ourselves without very good cause. I am not certain such cause exists for most people. If one does not look after oneself, one may find that one is of no value to God, others, or oneself. God does not require our help.

Truism is my invention. It is my personal philosophy.

    intruiging

Since this is very much not a poem, I'm caught a little off guard, but I suppose I didn't specify in the rules about poems or not. That's ok though, this is quite interesting. Until this point, I have never formally heard of Truism before. It sounds like quite an elegant and fulfilling philosophy. I read what you have to say, and I have to say, I find myself aligning with almost all of what you say (the only real difference being that I am a Christian (in that I believe and follow the teachings of Jesus) by faith and choice, and find I really can't put myself first, that is God' place, but I do keep furthering myself) This is an interesting little discourse on what it is to be a Truist. It sounds very appealing, and I'm going to have to look into it more, see what I can't find out about it.

Thank you very much for entering my contest. I love it when I get these kind of things that open my eyes, even just a little bit.

You have a great day, and take care.

    Nick

I meant that in my opinion, it evaded the problem of the effects of the enviroment (settings and happenings of life) which shape the inner psyche and the way people react to things.

Didn't know I needed to include environment: "Provided the Earth permits; not to mention the sun and moon". It was about social environment. I am after that typo, now.

I agree with these views, for the most part, though it seems to leave out the role enviroment plays in shaping a person's thought processes and perception of things which happen in life (there goes my sociological side)
I saw one small typo there towards the end: 'To try be open' instead of 'to try to be open'.

though this is not entirely poetic, it is nicely expressed.

thanks for taking the time to enter.
