He Was Always There

Heavenly Father as I reached for you,
I felt your fingertips touch my hand,
something was stirring deep in my soul,
Lord I was afraid, I did not understand.

I had been without you all of my life,
yet you were there to pull me through,
Lord you did not once abandoned me,
when my heart could not believe in you.

You picked me up each time I stumbled,
though I turned my back on your love,
I did not believe in the Holy Spirit,
nor in  God's Kingdom in Heaven above.

As I look back on this life I have lived,
I see all of your footprints in the sand,
though you were always walking beside me,
Lord I was too stupid to take your hand.

Lord you have taught me about forgiveness,
and how to love with my heart completely,
the passion I feel for You is overwhelming,
thank you Lord, for always walking with me.

Thank you Chris for your warm and lovely comment. Yes I wrote this poem from my heart. I turned my back on God all my life. I found out with God's love and forgivness that it is never too late to come home to His loving family. Take care my friend and Christian brother. God Bless you. Sandy
