A ground hog is not very scary
He is small and brown and rather hairy
He is always twitching his little nose
And he will eat anything that grows
A groundhog is not very scary
As he nibbles on fresh strawberries
He eats your tomatoes and your flowers
Demolish your garden in just a few hours
When ever he sees you coming near
He runs down his hole and disappears
When winter comes he can not be found
He is sound asleep under the ground
No, a groundhog is not very scary
Except on the second day of February
He pokes his head out of his den
Comes out, looks around and then.....
People watch and wait...some even pray
The groundhog is very scary today
For if he sees his Shadow we are told
There will be six more weeks of wintry cold

Thank you so much Ann. My sister wrote this one and emailed it to me yesterday for ground hog day. So I put it on AP. I am glad you liked it. I have been trying for months to sign on and write. She logs on and reads but won't write. Well you have a nice day. Thank you again for the nice comment. God Bless you. Take care, Sandy

hhehehe, this is so cute. I love little critters like that, and groundhogs are just so fat and cute. Anyways, I always look forward to groundhog day, just because I think that it should be as intensely celebrated as say..Halloween or something. Yeah...it's just that cool. I mean, a day for a cute little animal, and people getting all together to watch it for 5 seconds. Now, that's incredible. I love it, really I do
. It should have decorations and whatnot, and songs, and costumes, and lots of parties, and presents. Well...maybe not, but it's sure a good idea I think
. Anyways, sorry about my rambling. Great poem. Thanks for sharing it with us.

That's pretty good. I like your rhymes. The line read smoothly. In all a very well put together poem.

No idea what these groundhogs are like, but I think the closest thing we have is a Hedgehog Sandy. One to raise a classroom filled with smiles is this poem.
I can visualise your self or a teacher reading this out to a room filled with juniors with great emphasis, would be a treat to see.
I’ve many kids poems, one day when I stop writing and making pages, I’ll have to add these on AP see what response I get. For you know an old heart loves many a kids story or rhyme too

Very cute
Sandy, I have been busy all day...so my question is, Did Phil see his shadow today?
I haven't heard yet, LOL, but I knew you would write a poem about it, and your sister emailed you too,
This is a great poem, brings smiles, it was a pleasure to read, as "scary" as the groundhog is! all the best my friend, God Bless, Ann
