a simple sensation

a simple sensation
evoked
as a young man
walks up the stairs and
passes you right by
                   the coffee stand
drinking from the drip every afternoon
                   and evening
just as the sky turns black
against the pale, white cheeks
meant to be rose
filled with with laughter and life
but instead this
color that even the stars cannot compare
                flickering in his eyes
                trying to be the best
in a world where cheap perfume
                can buy love
and if you don't run with the crowd
        you're left to
            sink
  without a single sensation
     during the aftermath.
