Lemon

I got a car,
Think it’s great—
Runs like a toaster
On a roller skate.
A/C goes out
Right about May;
Heater works fine
On a hot August day.
Sunroof leaks when it rains,
Muffler is no more.
Radio gets just one station—
Knob fell in the floor.
Rearview mirror’s busted,
Blinker’s broken, too.
Every lane change prompts
A hand gesture or two.
Spare and jack in the back,
Nevertheless, I'm hopin’
I don’t ever get a flat,
‘Cause the trunk will never open.
Power steering is kaput,
Suspension went kablooey;
Get a full-scale workout
Every time I hang a U-ey.
Wipers are dry rotted,
So are all the tires.
Engine block is prone
To spontaneous fires.
Driver’s door is stuck—
Crawl in through other side.
Scars from bumper battles
Are a source of endless pride.
Duct tape on the dashboard,
Seats and steering wheel—
Something in the backseat
Smells like rotting veal.
Paint’s all chipped away,
Rusted from the weather.
Ain’t never gonna wash it—
The dirt holds it together.

Geez, this sounds a lot like my car, but mine is supposed to be somewhat new. I did have to laugh out loud when I read this, thinking of everything that I have tried to fix on mine, but nothing seems to work on it. You have definitely hit the nail on the head describing a lemon car. I enjoyed this very much. Good luck in the contest.

This is you at your simple witty best. I especially like your rhyme of kablooey and U-ey. Welcome back to the world of the simple. Glad to see the stress of teaching hasn't worn you down.

Great use of those short and pithy rhyming lines. I was going to enter, but considering the competition, I think I'll hit the sack instead. Thank you Mr. Nando Enter Tator.

hahaha sounds like my sons first car. I hated that thing but my husband thought new drivers should not have good cars. Well he survived but everytime he drove it I prayed. :) Great write.

I think we all owned a car like that once. I recall in my university days driving a Vauxhall super Victor. I had an elastic band holding the manual choke in position....haha...nice write

My first car was a Hillman Imp...bah..burnt more oil then petrol..i had a collection tank under the sump to collect the oil, used to syphon it back into the engine, crap and all..In the end it gave up the ghost after a night out in Bournemouth, so we pushed it to the beach, took th eplates off and left it there..caught the milk train home...lol my god that was so many years ago, hate to think.
love this though, as usual you have made me grin!
