Day Dream Clouded

My mind is filled to the girth
With wisping thoughts and day dreams
Miles long and centuries high.

Lost inside those clouds now
High above the Earth, the asphalt,
Wandering aimless through the Heavens.

Those clouds there, stuck in reality
Living as a being that is somewhere
Between cotton, whipped cream, and pollution.

The seams burst at my temples
As I lose track of my pulse,
Not meant to let this out here.

The highway goes on forever
As if it envies the images in my dreams,
Day dreams so long thought of they go into the night.

I can't hear you speaking behind me
Over the sounds of this my life,
You are shrouded by your own, and silenced.

Author notes

I reread this and realized it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to anyone who isn't inside my brain. It made sense while I was writing it, but that's probably only because these are thoughts jumbled together from a day on the road.

I can only imagine what a day on the road for you must be like. My son has a really good friend with the same job, and he seems a bit stressed. Of course, I think this young man is always stressed. LOL Great write, Erin! Hugs, Patricia

I completely understand the feeling in this poem. I love using daydreams to escape harsh reality. You have some very original metaphors and imagery as well. ^_^ Keep writing!
