Mary6(acrostic-sonnet)

Marys pen is filled with the finest ink
her words give me pause and a cause to think
her thoughts do provoke my mind to engage
her words into visions upon this page

Always, her poetry brings me new light
every new piece a stunning delight
sonnets and free verse, no matter the style
reading her work will always be worthwhile

Resigned to her greatness, she must, yet be
this lady who has so inspired me
her words do incite me to write my own
with her help, as a poet, much I've grown

Yesterdays musings and tomorrows new
6 ways to Sunday, I'm in debt to you

iambic pentameter is something i have always struggled with, since i started writing them at marys suggestion, my son has written two recently and his meter is near flawless, he has promised to help me with my meter when he comes out this weekend Mary is a sweet lady and one i am proud to call a friend of mine. I will endeavor to get my meter down in the future, my most recnt sonnet is the best of the lot so far.thanks for reading peace...uumm..peace

I've known Mary6 since we joined AP about the same time in 2004. We learned the sonnet form together and she immediately showed the musical ear and command of language which make her sonnets so lovely to read. You certainly have done your subject justice, she is as lovely as her verses.
This is a good sonnet, your mixed meter has a nice bounce to it and the couplet rhyming is good. I don't know if you have tried iambic pentameter? That and the rhyme scheme are what make classical sonnets so fascinating for me.

You know if you have discovered Mary that you should also venture forth and read MargaretG as well they are truly the queens of acrostic here.
I have not read much of Mary's work, but everything I have is so lovely you forget there is meter to it.
You have done a great job with this both in form and tribute.

thank you angelica, mary is a sweet lady, she is the one who got me into doing sonnets, so it was only fitting i do a poem in sonnet style for her. it is only a partial acrostic though with onlt the first line of the three verses and the last 2 lines spelling out the acrostic, but it was fun to write...peace

Another wonderful Acrostic, I haven't seen one done in Sonnet style before, I can't do sonnets anyway, I am hopeless with all the mrtres and feet and Syllables you have to do, so I don't attempt them. I like what I read no matter if it;s right or not, and Mary6 is a lovely lady~angelica

This is good. Not quite the style I was looking for. Nicely done though. Thanks for entering!

you are more than welcome mary. It is only a partial acrostic and the rhyme sheme<as far as i know doesnt firt traditional sonnet rhyme, but i was more concerned with doing you justice, than adhering to any style, though a sonnet seemed the most logical...peace

I am speechless! What a lovely sonnet! And to top it off it is an acrostic! I have never seen a sonnet done like this before. But it is the content that I am simply humbled by, this is just beautiful! Thank you seems not enough.
