The Rich Man And Lazarus

There was a very rich man who lived in luxury,
and a beggar named Lazarus laid at his gate,
covered in sores, hungry and begging for some scraps,
the rich man did not care of the beggar's fate.

When the beggar died he was carried off by angels,
they took the beggar to stand by Abraham's side,
at the same time the rich man also passed away,
but he was buried and sent to Hell when he died.

The rich man was full of torment down with Satan,
he looked up, the beggar with Abraham he did see,
have Lazarus dip his figure to cool the water he cried,
have pity cool my tongue, the fire has me in agony.

Remember in your lifetime you had many good thing,
but Lazarus always had a lifetime of misery,
now he is here with me being comforted,
well you suffer down in hell in torment and agony.

No one can cross the opening to come to you,
and you will never be allowed to cross over to me,
then the rich asked Abraham to warn his brothers,
so they will not be tormented in Hell for eternity.

Abraham said your brothers can listen to Moses,
they will be able to listen to all the prophets too,
if none of them obey and listen to all of the prophets,,
they will all be spending eternity in Hell with you.

  • I love how you can take such a simple part of the Bible and pen it so beautifully in to a great poem! I loved this one. Good imagery.

This is a very good poem. That can be a hard passage in the Bible to read because you feel for the guy in Hell, but then again you know he made his choice. I thought your poem did a good job of keeping to the feel of the story and it flowed well. Great job and God bless,
    Laura
