Scattering Ashes Of Day Drops

Days drop
Like dew from the petals of time
Scattering ashes
From the hearth of eternity

They say the only constant thing is change
As it weaves in and out of everything
Different choices bring different futures
Deciding on action and what it brings

Working the intent to walk away
From something so customary
Is one of the hardest things
Making it work at the end of the day

I had considered it for years
But never found the nerve
To turn my back on us
And give me what I deserved

Weeks turned into years
Comprising of individual days
Through mostly hard times
I made the choice to stay

Indifference’s blind eye
Became my trusted guide
I found comfort in my misery
Though it tore me up inside

It only took an instant
To take control of my life
A final decisive moment
And I stopped being a wife

Scattering ashes
From the hearth of eternity
Days drop
Like dew from the petals of time

to get comfort we usually go from practical to philosophy and try to find some solace there...the painful acceptance is strong in those words...very nice poem..

i found these lines especially enlightening...when a marriage is failing we do have a blind eye, love fades, we become indifferent and one becomes use to being unhappy and accepts...till one day we break free.
    very delicately written

Good grief, I think there will surely be an endless stream of those reading this one will see them selves in the words and images relayed here. Once in a while the heart just speaks out and what a depth it relays, words it thought that could easily live through time, with echo’s of truth ever ringing. This poems truly a master piece my friend, sincerely a classic. Dear me that heart of yours, I can see so much within there, endless depths. Excellent reading here, reached me deeply in the lines..

Powerful, emotional, and sad. A wonder penning in a manner only those who have had the misfortune to bear the pain. I love the style of your writing and the descriptive sincerety of a final decisive moment.

The refrain gave it that extra little emphasis to make it a strong and excellent write with a lot of emotion!! And I appreciate that you didn't make leaving a bad marriage sound like something so simple to do, cos for the most part, it's not the easiest decision to make!!! (some would think it's just that easy). But this does have a happy ending, acknowledging that you finally took control of your life and did what you needed to do for yourself!!! I like this a lot!! (I think I might have to read this a few times LOL).... Good luck in the contest!!!

Graceful and beautiful. I love how you reversed the first and last stanzas. My favorites lines are most definitely "They say the only constant thing is change
As it weaves in and out of everything" That feels so true....very well written and certainly powerful.

Very good poem. I very much enjoyed reading it. This writing had a very good flow, and the italics added emphasis which went well with the rest of the piece. Keep it up! <3 Bre

this is good. im sure it took what may seem as forever to decide whether to leave your husband. i have no idea why you chose what you did, but im glad you had teh strength to do so. you spend so long trying to making another person happy that you forget about your own happiness. i hope you have found what you needed in your new life, your second chance.

That is a very difficult decision to make, walking out of a marriage. You don't know just what is going to happen next. Very good poem. I loved the beginning and ending the most. Keep on writing!

Walking away from a marriage is one of the hardest changes one can go through, and I speak from experience. Sometimes we have to make the tough decisions in order to get on with our lives. Thanks for this entry.
