She leaned back in her favourite chair
and closed her eyes…
She saw herself sat on a shabby wooden
rocking horse
A woman, her mother, sat in her
favourite chair knitting.
She watched her mother as she
placed every stitch delicately.
She counted the colours that entwined
creating an eloquent cloth that flowed
down off her knee like a beautiful stream.
The woman glanced up for a moment
And smiled.
Intensely watching her mother,
she smiled back, and gently began
to sway the creaky rocking horse
to and fro, to and fro.
The woman gently put down
the knitting needles and picked up
the scarf. It sank into her perfectly
pink palm, and ran smoothly through
her fair fingers.
The woman stood and stepped
over to her girl. Placing it around her
neck she whispered “ perfect fit.”
She kept rocking to and fro, to and fro…
Took a deep breath and opened her eyes.
She sat up in her mothers favourite
rocking chair, and put her hand
to her neck, and felt the scarf.
the multi coloured weave flowed
softly around her neck, just where
her mother had put it.
