~~Haunting Portrait~~

He saw a portrait in the window
of a little antique shop,
the painting of a woman
causing him to stop
she was so beautiful and grand
as she clasped her small hands
Her eyes were mesmerizing
a dark examining soul
haunting,pleading
yet imposing strong control
Though his room was small and crowded
he wanted her portrait there
to look at it every morning
that haunting, enigmatic stare
he dreamed of her that night
fixed forever in memory
the next day, he went to the shop
with intent to buy
A painting he had coveted
his enthusiam high
His hopes were dashed, when he was told
The'Portrait in the Window'
already had been sold

Umm looked forever for a pic to go with this title and i could not find one so i settled for one of my favorite actress and i hope you all like her too....:) Jane Seymour

    very well written

I like this a lot Susan. I have seen many portraits where the eyes seem to really watch as you walk in front of it. You told the story of this man's desire to own this portrait really well in this one. I was sad when he went back and it was gone.
Did you ever see "The Picture of Dorian Gray?". It is pretty spooky, and tells the story of a man who is a narcistic type.
I think it was a book, made into a movie.

    I enjoyed this one.

There is a portrait in the Phx Art Museum that I have lusted after for years. Well granted...I can never purchse it, but every time I see it... I spend a very long time gazing upon her. Its they eyes..and the expression in her face. Mesmerizing... Someimes I think she was ME...in a past life.

This write brought her face to mind....
A wonderful write my friend...I enjoyed it greatly.
    Hugs and love..
