Treasure

Precious things are these to me-
The tablecloth and willow tree,
Dancing curtains, filled with light
Closed again against the night,
A rug of red, alight with flowers
The cuckoo’s song upon the hours,
The ping of every jar that seals
The table splendid with our meals,
My father’s strong and merry gaze,
My mother’s hands, her loving ways,
The warmth of home when night is cold,

And little hands to kiss and hold.

Author notes

For my parents
who are both wise, beautiful, and love one another and all of us. I thank God for you. If I could magically go back and pick parents for myself, I'd run right up to you.

Your poem is really sweet - I can hear it being read as a table prayer - and the author's notes are so touching, they honestly made me tear up a little. I remember entering your contest for comfy homes and can see how your own shines through here. Thank you.

      Thank you for remembering me!
Actually, I made a song to this one, and I sing it to my babies. The last line repeats in the song, though. -Glass

That sounds like a poem I would find in a Precious Moments book my Gramma got me when I was little. With inspirational phrases in it. It brought me right back to reading that in my room 20 years ago. Nice job.

Veyr sweet and kinda profound too. I especially like the last line, it looks really good set apart from the rest of the piece, almost as though that is the focus and the drive behind the work. I really did enjoy, then again I enjoy everything of yours I have read.
    Great Work (pushit)

That's a very nice and pretty poem. I relate to the first part about enjoying the simple things in life and the part about the love of family is sweet.

Well, THAT brought my mundane morning to a screeching halt... now I'm all soggy and red-eyed and smiling. I believe that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me or to us. Thank you.
