MY FIRST LAST WILL AND NEW TESTAMENT ON ALLPOETRY
I, in my left mind, do dictate unto mine fingers these words, and I am sure no other mind doth dictate them:
To everybody in general, I leave my poems. You are welcome to steal ideas, but not phrases, thank you very much.
To my friends, I leave you yourselves. (See below.)
"Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears." I am permanently leaving AP and OP, due to some upcoming trips transatlantic. I admit (see? I admit!) that I have definately learned many new things about poetry from this site. For one thing, I don't just write sonnets any more. To thank a few of the poets who have inspired me to write "wider" on this site, I am listing them below:
myrataal Her style is unique and very rich; every word is placed perfectly down, as naturally as when the snow falls. There is not one poem of hers that has not appealed to me.
MuseStalker Her poems surprise the reader. There's nothing safe about them. You can never walk in knowing what you'll get.
oneroleofmany She appeals to me because of her wide variety of moods and forms. Not to mention her wit and humor. If you want some straight talking, check her out.
Jhirrad writes some of the best love poems I have seen on this site.
trumpetfalcon is the warrior poet around here. She's also a laugh-inducer. Her poems are very deep at the same time. Some exellent insight.
AndrewHide has some exellent Oriental poetry on this site. Using more than the haiku, he can capture the entire spectrum of thought and emotion, witty to wistful, with grace and elegance.
fleetingshadows is the "coquette" of this site. Beware! Caveat!
Prodigy is without doubt my favorite songwriter here. Her style is impressive. She's one of my best friends on this site.
Antar who writes poetry like Mahmud Darwish. Visit this poet's author page for some of the most phenom Arabic-style poetry.
Ahkam is one of my best friends on AP. His poetry is a good deal inspired by Pushkin. Beautiful stuff.
FallenToCinders who inspires me in all her categories, songwriting and all. Everytime she writes, you can see she's put every last drop into it she's got.
Demented Sonneteer known here as the master of sonnets. His work is heartfelt, he digs deep to the heart.
sadelmann who has given me invaluable advise about poetry. I thank you for inspiring much of my recent work. Visit his author page for some marvelous stuff. He is the Stephen Crane of this site.
yumanbeing in the short time I have read his works, I have enjoyed their careful photography of detail, which does not distract, but enhances the entire picture.
And last, but not least, Ashi, who looks like Poe but sounds like Plath.
I wish that all of you might achieve immortality in the realms of poesy!
Now
Out of your whole life give but a moment!
All of your life that has gone before,
All to come after it,--so you ignore,
So you make perfect the present,--condense,
In a rapture of rage, for perfection's endowment,
Thought and feeling and soul and sense--
Merged in a moment which gives me at last
You around me for once, you beneath me, above me--
Me--sure that despite of time future, time past,--
This tick of our life-times's one moment you love me!
How long such suspension may linger? Ah, Sweet--
The moment eternal--just that and no more--
When ecstasy's utmost we cluch at the core
While cheeks burn, arms open, eyes shut and lips meet!
--Robert Browning
Mother, I cannot mind the wheel;
My fingers ache, my lips are dry:
Oh! if you felt the pain I feel!
But oh, who ever felt as I?
No longer could I doubt him true;
All other men may use deceit:
He always said my eyes were blue,
And often swore my lips were sweet.
--Walter Savage Landor
The first person to point out the joke in this poem will get X amount of points. Around 20. If I have any left by then.*
Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne connait point.
(The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing.)
